Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg is launching her Tall Girls Prod. banner with a television treatment for Marvel’s mature title Alias. While the MAX imprint has nearly folded, Rosenberg’s treatment of private eye Jessica Jones will help the character live on in a tepid television format. Currently, it’s being developed for a Fall 2011 launch on ABC. If everything holds up and no one at Disney/ABC/PRC gets too pissy…it’ll be Marvel’s first television launch under their new Disney overlords.
Given the recent Jennifer Garner series of the same name, the project is being developed under the moniker AKA Jessica Jones. If you’re unfamiliar with Jessica Jones and her Marvel adventures, I’ll give you a rundown.
- The series opens on Jessica having anal sex with Luke Cage
- Talks to Ms. Marvel while she’s on the rag
- Sleeps with a lot of C-List Marvel heroes
- Robs J. Jonah Jameson
- Unveils that she was a superhero who attacked The Avengers
- Mind-raped by The Purple Man
- Avenges her mind-rape and becomes another Brian Michael Bendis talking head.
I know what you’re thinking. Wonder Woman never had to have anal sex to get a show made. Well, her shit got revamped and cancelled in three seasons. In this economy, you’ve got to pull out all the stops to get the ratings. One thing that has me intrigued about this property is how they’re going to handle all of the shared Marvel Universe tie-ins. Are we going to see Luke Cage, Ms. Marvel, Scott Lang, Rick Jones and The Purple Man trolling through this new series? One can only hope.
While Guillermo del Toro is developing a Hulk series for launch around 2011/2012, there’s been no comment as to current production developments. ABC Family is currently eyeballing a Cloak and Dagger series, but there has been no further development at this time.

The MAX line hasn't folded at all. There are regular Punisher and Deadpool titles that come out under that banner, as well as different one-shots and minis. Where do you get your information? "Alias" has been done for a long time, and Jessica Jones has been a part of the regular Marvel Universe ever since, but MAX keeps chugging along. Marvel also has Icon, which is their creator-owned imprint, which is where you get a lot of Millar and Bendis' newer adult-themed stuff.
Gotta love how virgin dorks automatically assume that doggystyle sex = anal sex. And the MAX imprint folded? LOL when the fuck did THAT happen?
Well, while I won't agree the MAX imprint has folded, it is only being barely kept afloat by Punisher. It used to have a wide breadth of titles, Alias being one of them, but many of them could just as easily have passed for Marvel Knight books without losing any of the plot, Alias being one of them, so that's kind of what has happened.
However, I do have to join in on the lols being had at Troy for never doing a girl from behind.
It's comforting to see that we've all taken as a given that this adaptation will suck, and have immediately moved on to more interesting stuff, namely ridiculing the article writer. PS Sweet Jesus fix the Goddamn comment verification already, I've just passed ten attempts.

The tone will be tricky to pull off on a Disney-owned TV outlet, though, sex or no. The best material in the books is the talking head stuff.
MAX never had a lot of regular titles. Even when Alias was still going and the Punisher MAX book was starting up (it took 3 years for them to start a Mature Readers Punisher once that label was started, which boggles the mind), it was still mostly different mini series coming out. There are a lot of books out now that would be MAX books if it wasn't for the Icon imprint. Combine the 2 and it would be like DC's Vertigo, which has a lot of creator owned stuff, but doesn't draw a line between that and the non-creator stuff by releasing under a different banner or anything.
