Deadline is reporting that the American remake of the excellent Spanish time travel movie Time Crimes (aka Timecrimes, aka Los Cronocrimenes) is getting a rewrite.
Dreamworks has hired on Steve Zaillian, who’s on a bit of a hot streak lately, to put it mildly. He’s the man behind David Fincher’s upcoming The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo adaptation (as well as The Girl Who Played With Fire) and Bennett Miller’s Moneyball which stars Brad Pitt, as well as The Irishman with Scorsese, De Niro, Pacino and Pesci. Quite the list!
The first draft of Time Crimes was made by Tim Sexton (Children of Men), and it will be interesting to see what they change for the American release. Let Me In shut up a couple of detractors of quick foreign remakes but the original Time Crimes was quite an odd and quiet little film. More on the remake as we hear it!

Is the title supposed to inform about the content?
The original is a great little film. A perfect example of what you can do with a limited budget and a fantastic idea. It’s a little like Primer in some respects (i.e. a low budget time travel film) but is actually comprehensible.
Los Cronocrimenes is awesome, here’s to hoping the remake doesn’t deviate too far from the solid construction of the original.
Time Crimes was the opposite of Primer. Sure, they were both low budget time travel flicks, but Time Crimes had an exceedingly simple and straightforward narrative while Primer, well, less so. That said, Time Crimes was pretty good, but as someone who isn’t afraid to read subtitles, I hope they change things up, stray from what’s come before. Otherwise, what’s the point?
Had no idea they were remaking this awesome little movie! Will they be going through the whole “Shooter-six” series? A remake of Big Man Japan, perhaps?
