Unwanted Commentary: This is a really tough category with a lot of food groups represented. While I don’t feel he deserved it, I’m very surprised that Wahlberg’s not in here. Franco’s hosting the show, would it be feel-good Oscar shit if he won? I don’t know, but that movie hinges wholly on his work.

Unwanted Commentary: Bale has this locked up, but how awesome is it that the amazing and delightful John Hawkes is now an Oscar nominee? That said, I think Rush deserves this award. Bale is a virtuoso and has a much more showy awards bait role… which is exactly why I want Rush to win.

So happy to see How to Train Your Dragon’s score nominated. It was my favorite of the year.
No love for The Town…expected but still disappointing. Also would have liked to see Mila Kunis nominated. Other than that it’s all expected, for the most part. No damn surprises…
OK list, but INCEPTION really should have been nominated for editing & best director.
The Fighter will probably win for Best Picture? That can’t be serious. Is it?

I’d be quite happy with The Fighter winning Best Pic. As good as The Social Network is, The Fighter is even more of an Oscar film, to me at least.
Ah the annual farce that is the Oscars. An excellent exercise in the hive-mind thought process and in “I gave you a car but not money, so technically it doesn’t qualify as a bribe” politics. I find it to be fascinating from a detached perspective how people continue to give a shit about this ridiculous little group of voters foisting their ridiculous little opinions upon us. Quaint, really.

Not to get to fan boy for Inception but it’s tragic it’s not up for editing screenplay and probably director too.
Solid list of nominees this year. Sadly, I expect a huge backlash for INCEPTION. Nothing folks like more than building up a successful and popular film, only to tear it down afterwards, retroactively claiming ” it wasn’t THAT good.”

Agreed.
Eight noms ain’t too shabby for Inception. Best Film and Best Screenplay were always certainties, I can let editing slide but, yes, Nolan should have gotten the Best Director nom. But you know what? It’ll be more satisfying if he kicks The Dark Knight Rises out of the park and the Academy will have no option than to nominate him or face a vicious backlash.

According to Wiki on the Oscars: All sequels are automatically considered adaptations (since the sequel must be based on the original story)
Yay for Jennifer Lawrence, that was a nice surprise. Question for those who are upset that Nolan was not nominated. What director that was should be bumped off for him?
Wanted to add that I’m glad Michael Douglas did not get nominated for a mediocre movie. Thought for sure he’d get the sentimental nomination.
How in a sad fuck did 127 Hours not at least get a nom for something relating to sound? I’m apparently retarded, so someone pleae explain this to me in a way that makes sense.
