This is not exactly news at this point, but Ricky Gervais appeared on Piers Morgan Tonight (CNN’s odd replacement for Larry King Live) on the 20th, largely to respond to the “scandal” caused by his Hollywood roast during the Golden Globes. There of course was no scandal, and Gervais’s typically acerbic wit was the only highlight in the otherwise boring as hell (as always) award ceremony, but it is always a treat to watch Gervais talk, and the Globes are mainly used as a reference point to allow Morgan to get Gervais to riff about his life as a whole. And riff he does, for 45 minutes, while drinking beer no less.
I always roll my eyes when Gervais tries to pretend like he isn’t aware of certain public perceptions or the power of his own words (much like I used to roll my eyes when Jon Stewart used to play naive with the fact that he had a major voice in political opinion), but I otherwise love Gervais’s mischievous demeanor in interviews. If you have some time you need to kill, this lengthy interview is a pleasant way to do it.
Here she be…

I watched the Gervais and Stern interview Piers Morgan did. Morgan is one of those douche bags who seems like he’s more concerned with trying to live up to the way CNN is promoting him instead of just doing a good interview. He’s outrageous! He asks the tough questions! He doesn’t pull punches!
The beginning of the interview where he talks about spanking Gervais is just downright bizarre. He comes off with this faux pompous attitude that is tough to sit through.
Excellent interview! Thanks for posting. Gervais is awesome!
This was good stuff. It would be even better if Morgan didn’t keep interrupting and changing the focus of a topic.
