There’s not a lot to this, but we’ve already gotten a bunch of mail about it and you wish is my command- have another look at Captain America (he has a habit of dueling with Spidey for costume stories!). While he’s sans helmet on this Empire cover so Chris Evans can show off that handsome mug of his, the interior lead shot is a nice dramatic pose with helmet and all. They were sent over to ComicBookMovie.com but make sure to grab the magazine or visit Empire’s website when it hits stands on Thursday.

when designing a war outfit.. best to always put a target shaped item dead center on your chest
What a weird thing to say. It’s already the biggest target on the human body. I don’t think a white star is going to make someone with a gun go “Oh, THAT’s where I should aim. Thanks!”
Obviously you never shot a gun… makes the “target” easier to track, DUH.
Obviously I hit a nerve. No reason to get all defensive. Also, it’s a comic book adaptation- some suspension of disbelief isn’t just optional, it’s required.

I’m not saying this is a sound (or logical) defense, but I thought Batman (or maybe the Punisher) said they purposely gave a thug a target like their bat/skull/whatever and it was more heavily armored for that reason; it helps keep the thug from shooting a squishier spot, i.e. their head.
Jeremy- I was just thinking the same thing. It was Batman, but I can’t remember which book it was (maybe Dark Knight Returns?). Shoot the big, kevlar-protected spot instead of the head.
Yeah, I’m not sure that’s what the original artists had in mind, but it makes comic book-sense, especially for guys like Bruce and Frank. And, you know, better that then having your only emblem on your belt buckle and gettin’ shot in the jock strap.
I really dig this costume. The whole project seems like a perfect storm for Johnston’s sensibilities (he’s never blown me away but he’s always come THIS close…). This is the geek dope I’m most looking forward to this year.

I actually like this costume. Glad they have the wings on the helmet. Hopefully it will be a good film, at least on par with Iron Man and the most recent Hulk. I’m kinda nervous about Thor…
The comments about where to get shot are pretty good- if I was wearing armour I’d want to get hit there (if at all). And I’ve spent a fair amount of time in kevlar. Not too comfortable, but it seemed like the best option. So people know, an M-16 round (5.56mm) is stopped by a standard kevlar vest, but the 7.62 round that is the NATO (and much of the rest of world) standard goes right through.

Not sure what happened there. Meant to say:Well, our SAPI plates were rated to stop 7.62×39, which I’d say is more the world standard than 7.62 NATO, but being in WWII you’d need to find something capable of stopping 8mm Mauser. Good luck, Cap’n.
Batman explained his in The Dark Knight Returns. If people are going to be shooting at you, help them aim for the most heavily armored area.
