Let’s just be blunt. The majority of romantic/girl-oriented comedies are atrocious. They’re generally shrill, unrealistic, or so deliberately gross that it doesn’t appeal to any gender. And I’m not saying that to be cool to the men. A bad film is a bad film, and that genre (if you can call it that) is a bleak desert of hopelessness.
Kristen Wiig and Paul Feig may have bucked the trend with Bridesmaids. The trailer went up at Apple today, and it is really hilarious. I’m not in the soundest of mind or body at the moment, so I may simply be one easy and sick target. But those are some damn fine “Is this your guy?” visual gags. And maybe, just maybe, that’s happened to me a few times. Maybe a lot of this has.
Except for Jon Hamm. And Jon Hamm is in this! That should raise its guy cred quite a bit. You laugh, but not a day goes by where I don’t hear a straight man opining over his strong jaw and comedic timing.
I’ve said too much. Go watch the trailer at Apple, and come back to tell us your thoughts on a film of the female persuasion.

Can’t say I’m sold on this after watching the trailer (though it has its moments), but I hope it’s good because I’d love to see a female “Hangover,” something that lets its leads go wild in absurd situations rather than the typical rom-com, gotta get the guy set up.
I’m not sure who I want to fuck less: Female Zach Galifianakis or the actual Zach Galifianakis.
That creative team make me want to see it. Eventually anyway.
This looks like it could be amusing, and therefore much better than The Hangover.
