Oh, young and doomed Bucky Barnes. So idealistic and patriotic, you became representative of the true cost of war. You’re the closest thing to a dark past that Captain America has. As boy sidekicks go, you’re probably the most innocent and respectable, and your hero learned from his “What’s the worst that can happen?” mistake.
And now we know what you look like onscreen!
Well, in a grainy scan anyway. The French edition of Premiere had a nice feature on Captain America (or, as they know him now, The First Avenger) that included some never-before-seen images. Les Toiles Heroiques (and yes, I know I’m missing all the characters) posted the images online. I’ll let them keep the HYDRA agents and a pre-disfigured Hugo Weaving, and share Bucky.
Bucky Barnes is being played by Sebastian Stan. He must have been happy growing up with such a Marvelesque name. It would appear he does have some version of Bucky’s uniform on, and he certainly has the face for the part.

ETA: Now LA Times’ Hero Complex has premiered the first American look at a haunted and battered Bucky. The subsequent interview (very spoiler heavy) with Joe Johnston reveals that this isn’t the happy-go-lucky sidekick. Instead, he’s an older, darker, and wiser Bucky who enlists on his own merits, unlike the sickly Steve Rogers:

Every shot I’ve seen from the film so far looks spot on. I’m still stoked. So much so that I think it’s time to go to dark on Captain America news. I’ll see you on the other side.
While I kind of wish they were closer to Brubaker’s retcon, where Bucky was trained to be the sneakier side to Cap’s flamboyant “I AM AMERICA” style, even doing wet work where necessary, the way they handle it in the movie still sounds leagues better than the war photographer that just happens to catch Steve changing and blackmails him into making him his sidekick.
CAP 2: WINTER SOLDIER MAKE IT HAPPEN MAKE IT HAPPEN
Elizabeth, you do realize Bucky was revealed to be alive as a brainwashed assassin called the Winter Soldier who would later take on the role of Cap?
Yeah, that’s the Bucky they’re going with, not the golden age version.
Yes, I do realize. But I really saw no reason to bring it up regarding a story where he is a mere American soldier, and dies in the war as far as Captain America was aware. That’s a huge part of Cap’s background, not “Oh well, he became the Winter Soldier so Cap stopped giving a damn.”
Cap still hates himself for putting Bucky in danger. He has never taken a sidekick until the revived Bucky, and that hardly counts since he’s acting as Cap.
Regardless if they ever actually did a Winter Soldier movie, Bucky will still die, and Cap will still blame himself for it. And it’s still a “what happens to young men in war” story.

I agree. I don’t have a problem with them changing that story. Any curtness in my post script was just haste! And an unwillingness to spoil. Like The Mutt, I’m hitting a point where I don’t want to know or share more about this movie.
