Back in January, we were supposed to know who would be Roland Deschain in The Dark Tower “within a week.”
It’s April, and still no one has officially signed. But according to Deadline, Javier Bardem’s trigger finger is getting itchy. Itchy to sign.
It’s not really a surprise since he’s been “psychologically committed” since at least January and February, but that’s such a squishy commitment that I wouldn’t have been surprised to see him drop out and another star sign in. It’s a big commitment considering the crossplatform ideas that Ron Howard has in mind.
But now we know, it is Bardem unless there’s a catastrophe of epic proportions that wipes out all of filmdom. But it’s kind of an unexciting confirmation of a confirmation at this point, isn’t it?

Kinda disappointed. I was still holding on to the hope that Viggo might jump on board. Oh well, hopefully it all works out for the best. Let the supporting cast speculation begin!
Ditto on the preference for Viggo as Roland. While I love Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander, I think she’s miscast as Susanna.
It’s a pity there had to be those two names in the same hat. Either guy brings the extra level of prestige and credibility to the project that it needs.
Already bored with Noomi Rapace in anything. A total Richie Cunningham choice there.
I’d completely forgotten about who they chose for Susanna. This does not bode well. There’s still time fix THAT particular casting faux pas, right?
