I think I actually got choked up watching this. Here I thought my days of obsessive LOTR fandom were over — and I don’t mean that I reversed my opinion on the films or anything. It’s as if we’d been married awhile, and my passion settled into just a happy fondness.
The first little notes of Concerning Hobbits, playing as Peter Jackson actually walks around Bag End…oh man. It’s just wonderful. It’s finally happening, and I was one of those who snarked and bitched that it wouldn’t.
And yet there is Martin Freeman in rehearsals, the perfect Bilbo, bustling after the dwarves carrying an axe and looking as baffled as I always pictured. There they are, sitting round the table, Freeman (clearly in hobbit mode) noting there will be a “roaring fire” there. I can almost taste the seed cakes…
I can’t wait. I am officially excited. I held it off as long as I could, but now I’ve seen it with my own eyes. And I won’t post any doubt or criticism, because there’s time for that, and I want to just revel in this little moment.

that music… couldn’t stop smiling.
Seeing those sets again was like stepping back in time. I could almost see Boromir and Aragorn in the Rivendell set. Surreal.

I am now one of the converted. Having watched all 5 million hours of bonus features on the three extended editions, it’s so…..right….to see all those same people, the people who were there before….it’s sort of like catching up with old friends. OK, Pete. You got my $15 for 3D.

It’s the strangest thing, like time folding upon itself yet . . . it’s all so different: my life, their life, the world itself – so much as changed so drastically. I feel so grateful that it will get made by the same mad geniuses: Alan Lee, Richard Taylor, John Howe, the Jacksons, Ian McKellen, Serkis . . . this is all wonderful.
del Toro would’ve done a good job, but really Jackson is the man to do this. Thanks Mr. Jackson for giving up a few years of your time to do this for us.
It looks good already, and this wait is going to kill us all.
Great to finally have Pete back in the director’s chair for The Hobbit; agreed that while del Toro would have done a good job, no one but Peter could have directed this. It’s still his baby.
Brings back memories as warm as when you peed on yourself in sleep as a child. I mean that in a good way.
Cant wait to find out who voices Smaug…
