It’s been five years since The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, so you were beginning to feel safe… but you’re never safe. Not when there’s more money to mine from a franchise.
Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Lionsgate is moving forward on Leatherface 3D, the sequel to the Platinum Dunes Texas Chainsaw Massacre. They’re looking for a director for the film and are in talks with none other than John Luessenhop, director of last year’s Takers. (Yes, I had to look him up too.)
The film is supposed to pick up three decades after Leatherface goes dancing in the streets in Tobe Hooper’s film.
It’s all been downhill since Dennis Hopper battled it out chainsaw a chainsaw in the second one, folks, and it would be a miracle to see something worthy come out of this. Besides, hasn’t the 3D bubble burst already?

Unfortunately, I am afraid the bubble will only burst when 3D stops making money.
And as far as I see it the audience still is not fed up with it.
No one needed the Platinum Dunes (*bluach*…sorry involuntary throw up) reboot,
no one needed that “The Beginning“ sequel and no f’n one needs Leatherface in 3D!!!!

“Chainsaw 2 “ is still banned here in the dark backwoods called Germany,
so I never even was aware that the late Dennis Hopper starred in it.
One more reason to search for an uncut copy and check it out.
(BTW: The original “Chainsaw“ ist still confiscated here.
That means that EVERY copy of the movie within the german borders was DESTROYED.
Can you believe it?

I thought the reboot was one of the only good things to come out of Platinum Dunes and I like The Beginning for its massive amounts of gore, but I think they need to leave Leatherface alone. He has ran his course.
This is supposed to be a sequel to the Hooper film, not the Platinum Dunes remake. From what I understand, it starts out with a sequence that begins right after Hooper’s original ends…………..and then jumps forward 30 years. Basically, it won’t ignore the original three sequels but it likely won’t directly refer to them either.
This is effectively The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 5 and has nothing to do with the Platinum Dunes (who no longer own the rights) duology.
