I never got around to writing up the clip that hit the web last week, but goddamn… Driver looks good. Today some new images and a poster have come out, and it’s as good an excuse as any to make sure everyone is up to speed on this exciting movie from the director of Bronson and The Pusher trilogy. Starring Ryan Gosling, it seems like a straightforward story that will set the stage for some fucking great automotive thrills…

“Drive is the story of a Hollywood stunt driver by day (Gosling), a loner by nature, who moonlights as a top-notch getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld. He finds himself a target for some of LA’s most dangerous men after agreeing to aid the husband of his beautiful neighbor, Irene (Mulligan). When the job goes dangerously awry, the only way he can keep Irene and her son alive is to do what he does best—Drive!”

The clip below was put out in lead-up to the film’s Cannes premiere. It’s an excellent piece that uses atmosphere, subtle expressions, sound and careful blocking to be more exhilarating than any cut-to-ribbons chase sequence could be. The perfect cut on the clip promises there will be some high-speed action all the same though. In the moments when the wheels aren’t spinning you’ll be treated to performances from Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman, Christina Hendricks, Oscar Isaac, and Albert Brooks. Holy shit that cast. And as the images promise, they all look good. Can’t wait to hear word about this one out of France.
