The Film: You tell me!
So here’s the deal – today’s my day for the MOD, but I’ve been a busy guy and haven’t even watched a movie since like last week or something. BUT – rather than just bail on it or try to throw something together from the fuzzy memories of a film I haven’t seen in days, I thought I’d spin it around a bit.
What did you watch? Tell us about it. Was it something you’ve seen before? Something new? How did you like it? You can follow our typical MOD format if you want, or just freestyle that shit and go nuts. I wanna know – we all wanna know – what was YOUR Movie of the Day?
Tell us in the Talkbacks below or on the boards. And I promise the next time it’s my turn I’ll give you guys a proper entry.

The Catherine Mary Stewart classic – The Apple
For some reason I rented One Night at McCool’s from Netflix. It’s not great, not very original, but it has some charm. I remember seeing it in theaters and thinking it was a fun little flick. It’s basically Rashomon with Matt Dillon, John Goodman, and Paul Reiser as the narrators. Liv Tyler is pretty good as the girl all the men are after. Michael Douglas makes a penis-sucking noise with his cheeks. A dumpster kills someone. Tyler washes a car in slow motion. Could have been worse. Not as fun as I remember, but it’s an obscure movie that will pass the time. Reba McEntire, Andrew Dice (ugh!) Clay, and Richard Jenkins co-star. Look fast for Mac’s mom from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
HEAD
The only G rated movie with genuine execution footage.
Directed by Bob Rafelson, better known director of the Nicholson classic Five Easy Pieces.
Written by Rafelson, The Monkees, and Jack Nicholson. (who also has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-him cameo)
HEAD is the 1968 surreal, psychadelic, romp starring The Monkees and it’s incredible.
Bridge jumping suicidal leaps lead to playtime with day-glo mermaids, Frank Zappa drops by with a magic cow to offer some sage-like showbiz advice. The fantastic Timothy Carey appears at random intervals as a semi retarded western thug, and the last third of the film is all taking part inside the fevered nightmares of a burlesque dancing cop passed out in a seedy mens bathroom while beseiged by a giant eye. There’s some great songs, exploding coke machines, Teri Garr, Annette Funicello, Toni Basil, transvestite being punched, hookahs being smoked, time loops and a King Kong sized Victor Mature.
This morning I was woken up at 6am to go to the hospital because my girlfriend got in a car accident and broke her collar bone. In other words, I spent the day sitting on the couch with her watching musicals.
Phantom of the Opera – The Phantom (looking nothing like Gerard Butler) is a real creeper. I couldn’t understand what anyone was singing about. It was okay.
Mrs. Henderson Presents – Judi Dench and nudity. But not Judi Dench nudity, fortunately. Bob Hoskins and nudity. And Bob Hoskins nudity. Unfortunately. It was actually quite good.
Chicago – Entertaining and well put together song and dance numbers, but you can’t possibly expect me to care what happens to a couple of remorseless murderers. Especially when they’re Zellwegers and Zeta-Jones. Ugh.
Just finished watching Cropsey, which was a interesting documentary and a interesting look on urban legend blending with actual events. Later tonight I’m going to see the original Friday the 13th in celebration of today.
Shooter with Marky Mark, which is a completly satisfying stupid action movie. Marky Mark gets to play a prick, which is when he’s at his best. He gets to shoot lots of people in the head. He gets to kill people that generally deserve, but our immune to karma in the real world. Danny Glover gets to be in a movie where he doesn’t say “I’m to old for this shit.” Its got Ned Beatty, and the a gun nut that is so authentic, I don’t think he was acting but some guy they actually pulled out of the woods of Kentucky. Plus Marky Mark gets this epic line. “I’m going to go these whip-its and pass out.” So if you’re looking for an entertaining action movie. If you’re looking for art, um I got nothing.
Cold Prey, slasher from Norway I believe. Very mediocre.
Krull or Cat People (1982). You know why.
