I mentioned HERE how Fernando Fro Reza was part of our family now and told you he did a glorious CHUD poster/wallpaper. We unleashed that HERE. But here’s the real meat of our new marriage… Every month for as long as we’re able to keep in keepin’ on, we will be saluting two films a month from history with glorious and beautiful posters that should get your gears turning real nice. What qualifies for a CHUD SALUTES honor? It’s a weird combination. Some of these will be great movies. Some will be horrible movies. Some unsung classics. Some pretty obvious flicks. The end result is that when this man graces them with his eye, they’re all unified in their delightfulness. Our first choice was Midnight Run, and Fernando aced it. Our second choice was The Manitou and it is glorious. Our third was Nighthawks and it was a delight. The fourth one featured not one but TWO amazing posters for The Thing and they were astounding. The fifth was the delightful Jackie Brown. The sixth was the delightful mutant bear romp Prophecy. We followed with The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Then, the delightful An American Werewolf in London one.
I am proud to present my ninth selection. The Black Hole, by Fernanzo Fro Reza. This is a movie that isn’t great but somehow still is a warm rememberance to me. And the Cygnus design is perfect. And Maximillian. OK, I love the film…

Sweet. V.I.N.C.E.N.T. is one of my all-time favorite childhood action figures. I remember the end of that movie scaring the crap out of me with the guy locked inside Maximillian going into the vortex. I’m equally scared shitless to watch this now because I know it won’t hold up at all. Oh and the some of the coolest blasters ever in this movie too. Fuck it I’ll watch it. Robert Forster with hair.

Aw, man, that rocks so hard. Unlike the movie: it has flabby sequences interwoven with dull ones, all wrapped in a level of technical aspiration it can’t quite meet and weird choices like that terrible shoot-out with totally the wrong scoring. The production design, however, is still incredible, and I’d still like to see a remake that had a script that wasn’t sappy, wasn’t drenched in misplaced religious iconography and had at least the semblance of a grasp of pacing.
Yeah, this is a beautiful poster. If only I loved the movie still!
