The cast list for The Dark Knight Rises has become mind-numbingly long. So many players. So many announcements of “Who?” and “We don’t know who he is playing.”
So when an actual rumor pops up that pulls back the veil a little bit…goddamn! It’s something.
And that something is a bit spoilery. Don’t read any further if you do want to go in cold.
Drew McWeeny at HitFix reports that Liam Neeson was seen on The Dark Knight Rises set. He did step before cameras. He shot something, and then beat a hasty retreat back to New York. Warner Bros refused to confirm or deny the incident, or whether Neeson would return for more shooting.
Is it flashback? Is it a dream sequence? Or is Neeson back and playing the resurrected Ra’s al Ghul? We already know the plot centers on this shadow from Batman’s past. We know there’s a young Ra’s being played by Josh Pence. It’s 99% certain that Marion Cotillard is playing Talia al’Ghul. Neeson’s appearance isn’t too surprising…but it certainly is exciting, especially if it’s more than a flashback or cameo.

I imagined this would come about sooner or later, since Nolan seems to be doing the smart thing by bringing the series full circle.
Honestly, as the end of a trilogy, and without a Joker, how else would you close things off?
And what about the Two-Face rumors?
This is shaping up to be a direct follow up to Begins, which I’m not exactly thilled about. Ghul and the League of Shadows are kinda dull, let’s be honest. Nolan obviously planned for the Joker to be in third one and we can only speculate how great it would have been.
I hope Ra’s brings more…Ninja, to battle…The Batman, this time! Batman Begins was…Better, than, The Dark Knight, so I am definitely interested in the direct follow up concept!
I think all the Ras stuff is going to be flashbacks.

I’m kind of glad there is no chance of the Joker returning. If Heath was still alive, i’d be afraid that the new film might suffer from Jack Sparrow syndrom. Great in the first film… annoying in the second.
Oh yeah. Totally. World-class actors playing villains that not only have the will and know-how to tear down empires, but also know Batman’s identity and have a hell of a score to settle.
I for one am just going to wait for DVD!
No, you are not the ONLY one who will wait for DVD because…nobody will wait to see this movie on DVD. You, and EVERYBODY else in the world will see this in theaters, trembling anxiously through the trailers and announcements, with your hearts in overdrive and your dicks in knots, because, dear sir…this movie will be good. Possibly VERY good. No matter how many nerds talk (type?) shit, they (myself very much included) will see this movie. It will be written/directed/acted/scored/edited in ways that will be very attractive to the senses that us humans possess. Deal with it.
Well, with dozens of actors and fifty villains, this is going to be five hours long. As long as Bale does SOMETHING about that voice, it will clearly be a very enjoyable 5 hours.
Oh, and did the rumor ever start that Mr. Reese from The Dark Knight (the guy who tried to blackmail Lucius Fox cuz of the Tumbler) is actually the Riddler because we might as well throw his ass in there too? Well, here’s to starting that again.
