This still looks like a very poorly filmed, scripted, and acted student film. There is nothing original here. An actor flashing a mugging face or jerking quickly toward the camera does not equal horror. The only thing this new trailer is frightening off of me is any desire to see it. 

So much for suspension of disbelief.

There was a little tickle of something during the set up and the appearance of the soviet helmet…but by the time the first bit of weak shadow acting happened it was long gone. I think they just didn’t look like astronauts.
 
As for pre-photography found-footage concepts/recording, the only existing thing I can think of is The Stone Tape by Nigel Kneale. It’s a highly dated BBC thing, but if you can get past that it has some creepy shit going on.
 

In order for the viewer to allow for “suspension of disbelief,” there has to be some level of believability for them to grasp upon. In my opinion, the acting and staging is too poor to allow that. We’ve also seen what real NASA footage looks like. Most of this footage likes like it was shoot on a handycam picked up at the local Best Buy store.

It’s the filmmakers job to pull the audience into their world; real or imaginary. We, as an audience, can’t be expected to check our brains at the door. Though I’m definitely tiring of the found-footage phenom, I was originally excited about the concept behind Apollo 18. Unfortunately, the poor execution shown in the trailers quickly dimmed any anticipation.
