I’m not exactly sure how this slipped past my radar on Friday, other than Peter Falk’s death dominating all the RSS feeds. But here it is.
Deadline reported on Friday that Christopher Meloni has joined the cast of Man of Steel. The role was deliciously unspecified, leading many to believe he would be Lex Luthor or Perry White.
Meloni clarified matters to Vulture today, saying that he’ll play “a general” but refusing to elaborate any further. As far as I know, there are no recurring military generals in Superman canon, so this is an entirely original character. He’ll be shooting over the course of five months, so it’s definitely an Earth character and not a brief role as a Kryptonian general.
A lot of people are down on Man of Steel, but you have to admit, it’s put together a fantastic cast. It’s about time Meloni got a juicy role on the big screen, and hopefully this is the jump to bigger and better things.

I do admit this is a pretty terrific cast. With that said I find Zak Snyder as a directing choice less then inspiring. 300, Watchmen and especially Sucker Punch, have shown that his pandering, over the top style maybe showing some cracks. We will have to wait and see,but, do not hold your breath.
He could be General Sam Lane. Father of Lois Lane.

I hope he teaches Superman/Clark Kent how to fondle his sweaters. They should save the lesson on how to properly hump the fridge for a sequel.
His role as the creepy cook in “Wet Hot American Summer” is one of the funniest, laugh out loud characters I’ve ever seen. I hope this is a major role and not some bit part in Superman.
I’m going with Louis Lane’s father, General Sam Lane, as well…………………………..especially since he was heavily rumored to be included as a major character a few months back.
Hey, we have a great cast, and a very visual director that won’t skip on the GOOD action like Singer did. My hopes are moderate but hopeful. I think we’re gonna get a kick ass, fun Superman film in 2012. I don’t hate Snyder at all, i enjoyed DOTD, Watchmen. Though i did HATE 300. Skipper Sucker Punch, so in my eyes he’s 2 for 3.

There’s only a 13 year age gap between Meloni and Amy Adams. He’s a little too young to play her father.
Zod was cast weeks ago. Michael Shannon has that role.

NY Mag caught up with Meloni, who said that he will not be playing Luthor. Instead, he’ll be a general in the movie. The actor wouldn’t reveal any more about his role.
