I seem to be in the teeny, tiny minority that likes Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes and the BBC’s Sherlock. I love Guy Ritchie’s dirty and slimy London, which looks exactly as it should. I think Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law bring that special something (I guess you’d call it homoeroticism) that make their adventures enjoyable. So I welcome the sequel with open arms.
But, I don’t know that I love the trailer. I’m intrigued that it seems to go well beyond England (Russia, possibly?) and bring in trains, ships, and forests to mix it up with the cobblestones and alleyways. But it seems too big. There better be a good reason for all these explosions…and hey, I like explosions, especially if they’re vaguely pre-modern.
I wish we could see a little more of Jared Harris’ Moriarty. I know a lot of us were underwhelmed by the casting (that’s what happens when Daniel Day Lewis gets name-dropped into the mill) and the sentiment extends to his first appearance. I hope there’s more to him than a top hat.
I’m also bummed they recycled the “in your face/hand” joke, but I can forgive it, since Sherlock is clearly crashing Watson’s honeymoon in a really disturbing way.

I’m just going to count my blessings that Pitt isn’t playing Moriarty. I’ve nothing against him, but that was just a bad idea.
This did feel like the sort of action-packed montage we usually get with second or third trailers. It doesn’t dampen my enthusiasm, but I thought our first look would bring a quieter sort of menace. I also hoped to spy a quick glimpse of Mycroft, but no such luck unless I’m just not eagle-eyed enough to spot him.

I’m with you! Enjoyed both versions. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for both RDJ and the BBC. Love the glimpses of Noomi. Far better choice than McAdams, who has been annoying me a lot lately. Also digging the even less subtle homoeroticism. Oh, pretty boys.
The first one was promising.Hopefully they ironed out the kinks in this one. TV’s Sherlock shot the pilot episode twice – so it’s not like it came out of the birthing tubes fully formed and perfect.
I loved the first one for what it was. A different view on the character. This looks to continue down that road, and I look forward to it.
Think I like the TV version better.

I’m also going to throw my hat in with the ‘I enjoyed both the TV series and the Downey Jnr. Film’ crowd. But yes, this does look a little too explosion heavy.
I got massive Wild Wild West/Jonah Hex vibes from this trailer. I hope that is wrong as I enjoy Sherlock Holmes stories a lot.
