This week is a little different. Mostly because I talk with my mouth full a bunch.
With the coming release of Captain America, Nick and I got into a pretty heady discussion about the quality of the last few Marvel movies and the studio’s overall direction. There’s a pretty strong line of disagreement, so the conversation is nice and meaty. In fact, the conversation was so stimulating that we ended up running longer than the camera was willing to record (so pardon an abruptish ending) While I didn’t get to dig too deep into my specific issues with Cap, our bigger-picture discussion is quite nice… Interspersed you’ll find some of Nick’s thoughts on other upcoming releases. We also provide you the brand new Amazing Spider-Man trailer with real-time commentary by Nick and myself.
We hope you enjoy, and apologies for audio that’s a little iffier than usual- we had mere moments to put this one together today.
This one is a bit longer than we’ve been putting out lately, so do let us know your thoughts on the length…

I’ve said it before: keep them longer! Even if you split it into two 10 minute sessions, that would be fine with me. Technically, something is weird this week with the jumpiness. But content was great, and even though I adore the Marvel movie-verse with all of my heart and strongly agree with Nick’s view of the endeavor as a whole, I really like hearing Renn’s take on it. These CHUD videos are better than flying reaper ass.
Nick is wrong, look at the train sequence in Spider-Man 2, it was character based and moved the story along not just there for pacing. Stronger narrative films have more chance of success when coupled with big FX. It’s narrative laziness not artitstic constriction that’s the problem.
good stuff. great joke about the fly. the trailer commentry is a great idea. more of this please. but seriously, one says it looks like Doom, the other says it looks like Doom 2? thats just nit-picking. I say Quake.
Great to have a longer episode that’s discussion-heavy. Ideally, that’s how they’d be every week. Think Nick is absolutely spot-on about Marvel and the Spidey teaser (which Renn was being way too harsh on.) Looks like so much fun, especially compared to the truly dour looking Dark Knight Rises teaser.
I like the shorter episodes, but I think this one was great as a longer one. There was some heavy discussion of the Marvel universe, and I think you wouldn’t have done that justice with a shorter time. Also, I agree with Nick on the Marvel universe points, but I think Renn’s idea of an HBO Avengers series is very intriguing. I love the appearance of Facebook superstar Shitty Parking Person and his subsequent punishment.
For the most part, Renn’s spot-on about Cap’s problems.
“Captain America’s bland, Joe Johnstons bland, I think it’s a great template”
Nick, huge respect, but that statement is arse-biscuits. Remove the nostalgia glasses for your childhood hero. Let’s hope Whedon stretches things a bit.
Is Renn crabby? Nits were picked. However, I like this format. That’s really most of what I liked tho’… the format.
Wow, about time Renn actually disagrees with Nick and lets it stick! Usually you two disagree and Renn just kind of shrugs it off! Atta boy. Decent show, felt kinda boring though. Not your guys’ fault though, shitty batch of movies to discuss, for the most part!
