Empire has posted the cover of their forthcoming September issue, and featured right there front and center on the cover is Karl Urban in full Dredd attire. Hard to base anything on a first character shot when we’ve seen no footage of the actual film, but he’s upset about something. Could it possibly be about how uninspired his outfit looks? Either that or he’s going as Smashedface McFlatnose for Halloween.

Aw crap. Thats terrible.
He looks like a snooty butler who has just observed someone being gauche. That or something smells bad.
Looks a lot better than boring old bats in his cape and pointy ears.
My eyes!!
He’s rocking the Cersei from Game of Thrones look. Urban is dope, so benefit of doubts are given but still… eeesh.
On a lighter note, does anyone else feel like they’ve finally gotten Spider-man’s mask right? I love the reflective lenses.
I’m sorry, I didn’t even try. I burst out laughing the minute I saw it. This is awful.
Id like to see stallone as Dredd, with his shits production value, but done properly. The suit screams of a stripped down, minimalist approach in compare to Sallones sneer and shiny golden eagle armour.
Urban looks like he’s about to cry. I feel genuinely sorry for him.
wtf!!! they put that in front of batman and spider-man. this world as gone to the dogs
I guess you guys are all upset that Rob Schneider is not coming back this time, hahaha. I think Urban, good as he might be, is way too slight for this one, and find it puzzling that Ray Stevenson didn’t get the role. But what is important is the people making the film, there’s a lot of talent there, including the creator of Dredd himself. It could be great.
He does look a little small without the enormous eagle shoulder pad. The costume needs to be a little exaggerated and actually doesn’t look cartoonish enough. He doesn’t look like a Judge as much as he just looks like a SWAT team member with Dredd’s helmet.
I’m guessing none of you knew that the original Dredd was not supposed to be a ‘roided up action hero like Stallone or Arnie but more like Lee Marvin or Clint Eastwood? Lean and strong like a boxer. This Urban version of Dredd is closer in essence and design to the original Dredd not the Power Ranger Stallone version in bling, codpiece and other assorted, shiny mounted plastics.
That frown is the expression that Judge Dredd will have when this movie goes down at the box office.
Blame Bisley for making him so big then. But ideally he should at least have been played by a tall guy, and somebody, unlike Urban, who possesses a massive chin.
Jesus Jones, that looks really bad. What is he, like 80? Somebody needs to photoshop a firmly gripped cane in his hand instead of the gun
Eh…Urban is six foot one, one inch shorter than Clint. Stallone is five foot eight, how big do you need Dredd to be?
Empire covers make everything look like a 6 Flags commercial.
Empire is a British mag, is it not? That explains it.
Michael Rabattino, That pic of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd is…Awesome! I just wish we didn’t have to wait til September 21st to see it. I do…Dredd, the long wait for the Judge of Mega City One!
Stiglets, The costume for Spider-Man looks…Amazing and Spectacular!
Serious? He’s that tall? He doesn’t seem that big. And you been furiously googling that or you work on the film maybe? If so he’s almost tall enough! Anyway, what about the chin? It’s not what makes or breaks a film version of Dredd, but you cant argue that Urban’s cute little chin is anything like the jutting thing of the comics…
I always thought Jason Statham was the perfect choice for Judge Dredd. He’s British, he’s a believable ass kicker, he sells mid-budgeted action fare, and he has the chin. Wa his asking price really that much higher than Urban’s?
ps. I think Urban is great, just not a great fit for Dredd.
Why not just make another Punisher film?
Bigger shoulder pads will help.
He was taller than everyone else in Star Trek if you want to see it. Dredd didn’t have a huge chin in the early comics.
Urban is a better actor.
I tried. I failed. Fucking….<sigh> wait, who gives a shit about this movie?
Any human being would appear to have a goofy underbite with that helmet on. Urban’s chin is fine; the costume, not so much.
Yes, that photo is crap, but there are much better pictures INSIDE the magazine. Suit looks perfectly fine with the proper lighting and context:

yeah dont know what everyone was expecting. looks like karl urban as dredd. and yeah thats some terrible photoshop job. even batman looks like an oil painting.
Batman looks like a corpse in this montage.
