Drew at HitFix is on a roll lately, with another major exclusive confirming that Mike Myers is returning for Austin Powers 4: Some Subtitle with Sexual Innuendo. It’s not surprising news, but for me at least, it’s welcome. Aside from the Shrek films and a really neat turn in Inglourious Basterds, Myers really hasn’t been great over the last decade. The Love Guru quite possibly erased any recent greatness from our collective memories.
The director is still up in the air, but one would assume that it would most likely be Jay Roach since he directed the first three. If it isn’t him, there are certainly many capable comedic directors that have emerged (Judd Apatow, Adam McKay) since the last Austin Powers, and a fresh and maybe more edgy take on this character/world would certainly be intriguing. Unlikely for a somewhat big “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” franchise, but intriguing nonetheless.
With all of that being said, I give you Fat Bastard.

I’d love it if that was the actual title of the film. This is expected though, especially since he and Seth Green have been hinting at it for years. I just hope it doesn’t blow like the third one did.
I liked the first AP film purely for the novelty value, but the others were like canned shit. But Verne gotta eat. Even little guys gotta eat.

Goldmember sucked, but Beyonce looked like gold-dipped, honey-coated heaven as Foxy. As for AP: 4, if they make it, I’ll watch it, but I’m not gagging for it.

Don’t worry about him, the majority of the readers here enjoyed at least 1 if not 2 of the 3. Mike is a bitter angry man, probably isolated too. You are correct in liking them, Mike is wrong.

Neither would touch this franchise with a ten foot pole. How about naming a comedy director who’s emerged in the last two or three years and doesn’t already have an established brand. Christopher Nolan really blew up this decade, maybe he’d be interested. How about Guillermo Del Toro.
I’ve always felt that the Powers films recycle way too much material, and much of that material we’ve seen back in Myers’s old SNL days. I guess there’s something comforting in seeing yet another silhouette joke thrown into the mix. In a way, the Powers films feel like a throwback to the Police Academy series, another franchise that used established gags that worked once as a crutch for later films. But it is fun to see established stars make a cameo that pokes fun at themselves.
