I’m going to go ahead and predict that new rumors of Warner Brothers cooking up a Superman/Batman team-up (originating from Think, McFly Think) are, at best, scraps of inside studio discussion that are either outdated, or misconstrued from larger talks. I’m fairly certain that I’d be going out on a shakier limb with this one if I predicted that I might poop at some point in the next week.
To be fair, TMT does admit that even these plans might have changed with Robinov and other WB execs vaguely alluding to Justice League and other plans. In the event the rumors represent something true though, they would indicate WB is generating a post-Nolan trilogy plan that will unite Snyder’s Man of Steel Superman with an extension of Nolan’s Batman in some sort of mentorship role. The variable is whether or not Bale would return to the rubber suit… if WB could convince him to continue with the character in a post-Nolan film, then Batman would apparently be mentoring Supes. If the studio found themselves needing to re-cast the bats, then it seems Superman would become master to Wayne’s student. Kind of gross, no matter which way they’d end up going.
Again, this all sounds like half-assed info, but it is worth noting that apparently Bale’s contract for Batman included three films and a team-up film. If Warners is that desperate to keep making Bat dollars beyond the obvious franchise, being able to market either a) a combination of their hit Superman and Batman franchises together, with Bale’s last time in the cowl, or b) their hit hero Batman mentoring the less successful Superman, in the ways of being a gritty, kickass Superhero. There’s some kind of half-formed mutant logic of a plan you can pull out of all of that, I suppose. Still a load of horseshit.
Regardless, with a site like i09 pickup on the story you can expect your lesser informed friends to be reciting it as a fact later in the week (probably the same guy on your FB feed who’s still convinced JGL will end up as the Riddler). Be prepared, if you’re the “movie person” in your group…

I have little doubt that there is truth to this rumor. I’m sure they don’t have a story or a script, but I guarantee the WB execs are looking at Marvel’s crossover success and thinking about how they can parlay Nolan’s Batman success into more successful franchises. I mean, they’d have to be stupid not to. And as dumb as the idea may seem, a Batman/Superman film would make a lot of money.
Oddly, I never had any desire for a DC team up. Although admittedly I am a marvel dude.
WB has wanted a team up movie with these two for a long ass time. They’ll get one sooner or later, so why not now, with a guy in the bat suit most folks seem happy with?
The other part of the rumors seems to be that Cavill will be Supes no matter who is playing Batman. If this happens, it will be because WB is a little hesitant to start out with a full-blown team-up film (Justice League) and wants to start out with something smaller that contains their two most box office-proven heroes. I won’t be surprised if this rumor gains steam and at least hits a serious talk stage. It might not get made in the near future, but it WILL happen eventually.
Batman and Superman inhabit completely different universes, one being grounded in dark realism (especially since Nolan took charge) and the other more fantastical and lighter tone. Teaming them up is beyond stupid and I hope Bale is able to wrangle out of whatever contract agreement he may have signed. Eat a dick, Robinov.
Why would friends be reciting it as “forbidden” fact? Verboten is german for forbidden. Verbatim, perhaps. Anyway, I think fanboys get their panties in a bunch about this stuff. These two could never work together? It starts with a decent script. They’ve been bouncing around together in comics and animated shows / movies for years… the pillars of reality still stand.
Bales contract included a team up movie… interesting bit of information there.
A kid that’s in the new Teen Wolf series was to play Flash in the JLA movie that didn’t happen. He claims that the script was really good, and they had costumes ready and everything, then the writer’s strike hit, and they pulled the plug. He thought everyone was great in the cast (and apparently he even started dating the girl set to play Wonder Woman). It involved the Flash (I believe he was Barry Allen in the film) using the cosmic treadmill to save the universe and he *SPOILER!* dies in the film doing it, but Wally West is there to take over the mantle.
