The grainy, high-key photo detail style indie poster often feels a little lazy and tired, but I really like this Martha Marcy May Marlene one-sheet that turns Elizabeth Olson into an abstract meld of features, while an ominous John Hawkes approaches from the background. That said, it still doesn’t sell the same creepily intriguing tone that the new trailer for the film does below.
I like this trailer. I already wanted to see the film, but now I’m even more excited to watch this tale of a girl who is seduced by an isolated cult, escapes and then is pursued. I’ve mentioned before that the film could be positioned as this year’s Winter’s Bone, as it features John Hawkes being great, a new breakout actress, and an isolated setting unfamiliar to most moviegoers. It’s going to be a thick year for awards, but I wonder if this challengingly titled drama will get any attention. Fox Searchlight has demonstrated a talent for getting its small stellar films noticed, so we’ll see…
The film hits theaters on October 21st, so keep an eye out to see if it will be near you.

Serious Let’s Scare Jessica to Death 70s era vibe in both poster and trailer. I cannot wait.
Reminds me of “Mouth to Mouth” with Ellen Page from 2005. Great film btw. Page plays a teen on the run in Europe who hooks up with a funky anti-drug cult, ends up working as a slave laborer on a vineyard in Spain under the thumb of a charismatic egomaniac.
