So this is one of those things that has sat on the internet for (at least) months in plain site, but JoBlo has picked it up and run with it as if it’s new to the tubes, which pretty much means it’s new. That’s some serious Baudrillard shit going on right there, as the culturally memonic fire hose creates an environment where simple tossing something out as new makes it new. A simulacrum of novelty, to get all highfalutin about it.
In any event, it’s a thing you’ll see around and you may as well see it here. Just don’t think JoBlo crawled through caves and dodged boulders or anything– motherfuckers got lucky on YouTube.
The story is that Steven Spielberg wanted to play a prank on Harrison Ford during a scene in Temple of Doom in which he was all tied up and vulnerable to such shenanigans. Thus he invited Barbra Streisand, Carrie Fischer, and Irvin Kershner to set to play out a cute little scene and to make insensitive comments. It was filmed, that film was preserved but rarely shown and became rumor.
Whatever the source of the video, it’s obviously somebody filming a viewing of the footage, as it contains crowd laughter. Despite that, it has been a difficult thing to scrounge up over the last few decades. So while it may have been on the internet for nearing a year and is being falsely claimed as “new” or “recovered” or whatever, it’s still not something you’d run across any day, so enjoy Indy fans…
Go here to watch the video.
Here’s the transcript, as pulled from the YouTube description.
Barbra Streisand: “This is for Guns of…”
Barbra Streisand: “Guns of Nav… – No.”
Harrison Ford: “For Force Ten…”
Barbra Streisand: “For Force Ten!”
Barbra Streisand: “This is for Hanover Street!”
Barbra Streisand: “This is for all the money you’re going to make on Return of the Jedi!”
Harrison Ford: “Who’s that?”
Carrie Fisher: “Is that the cue?…Someone who loves you!”
Irvin Kershner: “What the hell is the matter with you? Steve! Come on! I don’t believe one word you’re saying. Now come on, do it again!”
Barbra Streisand: “Give… give me a reason.”
Harrison Ford: “It’s the dialogue.”
Irvin Kershner: “Well…the dialogue.”
Carrie Fisher: “Can I change lines?”
Irvin Kershner: “Listen.”
Carrie Fisher: “Yeah.”
Irvin Kershner: “I want you to believe what you are doing!”
Carrie Fisher: “O.K.”
Irvin Kershner: “You call that shouting? You call that pain?”
Harrison Ford: “Steven.”
Irvin Kershner: “Steve, how can you let him do this?
Harrison Ford: “Steven.”
Irvin Kershner: “Come on!”
Harrison Ford: “Get ready. Get set.”
Carrie Fisher: “Alright, I can do it. I promise. I need to…(unintelligable)”
Irvin Kershner: “Do it again!”
Harrison Ford: “Really hit me! Really hit me this time!”
Barbra Streisand: “O.K.”
Harrison Ford: “Don’t do it with such… really hit me!”
Barbra Streisand: “Y’know, I feel like a faggot!”
Thanks to Brian Henne, JoBlo, and /Film commenter FishBulb for pointing out the obvious…

I don’t know what’s worse, JoBlo’s ‘claim’ or Renn’s cultural theory waffling about “Baudrillard shit”.
Well I dunno, what’s more annoying: two sentences, or two-thousand blog posts this will suddenly spawn?
Wow, Renn. That handbag looks terrible on you.
Was Streisand in her Mecha form when this occurred? I can’t tell.
Sound theory. But it’s too smart for the room. You may as well have written it on a truck stop toilet wall for all the good it’ll do. Just point them to the glory hole and leave them to the stink of their own shit and cum.
does somebody want to confirm if this was in fact when Fischer and Ford were fooling around with each other? It would make Fischer saying “someone who loves you” even more poignant. Fischer always claimed it was just a fun affair, but I like to pretend it was something much more serious… it always is.
So… this isn’t new then? Is that what I’m supposed to take from this article?
