The one concern I had about Joss Whedon’s The Avengers was that it wouldn’t look big enough. Then I remembered that he has a toolbox he’s never had before as well as the best 2nd and 3rd unit teams money can buy and a huge Marvel Movie Machine in place to hook onto.
So the Avengers looks and sounds exactly as you’d expect. Big, bombastic, and very much in sync with the other movies in the pantheon. Which is cool. All of the actors are fine choices and it looks as if the flick will be fun. My one biggest concern still hasn’t been alleviated: THE VILLAIN. There’s no way Loki is interesting enough to sustain this flick. Who Whedon has up his sleeve is a major issue. That said, enjoy:

Looks AWESOME. There are however two possibilities – A) Will it collapse under its own weight (too many characters, sub plots, too large a Marvel Universe to juggle in a 2+ hour film etc) and B) Will the storyline be sufficient enough to carry a succession of Avengers films, including proposed one offs, and standalone franchise films. Time will tell, but I am enthused!
NIN songs from the Fragile just keep making movies appear better than they probably are. I’m looking at you 300 trailer!
Trailer seemed like Iron Man 3 with a great supporting cast.
I cannot wait for this.
WANT
The Terminator Salvation trailer takes the cake in that regard.
Biggest concern is the queen of superfluous boredom, Scarlet Whogivesashit.
Nick Nunziata, Thank you for the…Awesome, Awe-Inspiring Trailer for…The Avengers! In less than…7 Months, the Avengers…Assemble in theaters Everywhere! I cannot wait to see this…Epic, Superhero Film on the Big Screen where it should be the…Best Superhero film of 2012!
I’m not surprised. They are still shooting and we are seven months away from release, so of course they are going to focus on the biggest moneymaker of the bunch for the first real trailer. I suspect the film itself will be on a fairly even keel in terms of character screentime and moments, but they are definitely going to push Iron Man in the first few trailers………………at least until we get past the holidays. Thor just hit home video and Captain America doesn’t hit until the end of the month. The next trailer will likely give us better glimpses of the other characters and the Hulk………….and maybe the villains (aside from Loki) if we are lucky.
She really is boring.
The only positive thing I got out of that trailer was that the quick shot of the Hulk CGI looked damn impressive. Everything and everyone else looks pretty uninspired.. I’ll pass.
Loved the trailer, but found the song choice questionable. NIN is great but those lyrics (“We’re in this together now! Nothing’s gonna stop us now!”) are a bit too “on the nose” as they say.
Too true. They should have saved a few bucks and gone with Starship’s Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us Now.
They shoulda stuck with Uma Thurman, who was a high point in the original Avengers.
Really looking forward to hearing Robert Downey Jr. spout off some Whedon dialogue.
There is really only once scene in this movie that matters. The rest is just window dressing. It’s the scene where Hulk smashes puny tin man, arrow-boy, red hair girl, and wing head man. Then gets blown to the moon by mjolnir.
That’s all I want, really. Any villains you like, any cutesy dialogue, heroic poses, whatever. Just this one scene and I’m good.
You know when you watch a trailer and within the first few seconds chills run down (or up) your spine and tear sting the corners of your eyes?
Yep.
