These numbers suck a dick.
Folks, we need you. We’ve been doing these weekly CHUD videos for a while now and though they’re ultimately fleeting and silly, a lot of energy and time goes into them. There’s a very solid and vocal minority among you who are there every week and we love doing it for you guys (Bucho, Joseph Kahn, Minimejer, etc) but the numbers have gone down, not up.
We need them to go up.
Keep this in mind: YouTube is neat, but for the most part YouTube views help YouTube a lot more than CHUD. For ease of access it makes sense to use YouTube, but sharing the CHUD links and Tweeting them DOES help us because it leads folks to the site (and boards, and talkbacks, etc.).
So, if you want us to keep doing them, maybe have a peek at the episodes and whatnot. See if it’s worth supporting.
Either way, they’ve been fun to do and a great exercise. No hard feelings either way.

Hang on – where’s that Wrap Up up the top located (Oct 7th 14.57m)? I’m a regular viewer and just thought you’d inserted a clipshow instead of doing a new one for whatever reason – the archive doesn’t seem to link it…
That looks like the clip show.
Ah – yeah, I’d say you’re right.
Two points then – don’t establish 15min shows then throw in an 8min quickie one week THEN a clip show the following week. A lot of the podcasters out there often talk about having to be consistent with content and delivery or they rapidly lose listeners, because people quickly fall out of the habit.
I was out of town.
Hey Nick,
As you (hopefully) know, I love this site and want to see you fine folks succeed. I’ll say this though. From my personal perspective, and I don’t know how other people use the site, I mostly keep this page open while I’m at work. There aren’t enough new articles daily to make me kill too much of my time on it, I probably spend about 30 minutes a day reading stuff. The problem with videos, and I can speak to this, because I work in the industry, is that about 90% of readers browse the web while at work.
Most of them do not want to watch videos, either due to sound, or streaming bandwidth which would tip off IT that they aren’t doing work. Amongst the TV stations I work with, slideshows and text are far more popular than videos. They’re just more work friendly. (By the way, get Renn to stop cussing in the title URL because that shows up on IT’s proxy servers, and I for one can never click anything with a curse in the url…)
I have only watched one or two of your videos, and they were both while I was laid up, ill. I know on other sites I go to that have switched to video format for recaps, etc, their clientele is clamoring for more textual content too as opposed to video. I know its not particularly helpful information, but it may explain your declining numbers.

I love the videos dearly and retweet them when posted. I will continue to do so and hope they are able to be continued. Definitely something I look forward to at the end of the work week!
Nick,
Another enthusiastic vote to keep the videos! I registered solely for the purpose of expressing my love for them, if that tells you anything.
I haven’t missed an ep. I’m there.
Honestly, if everyone here who has a Facebook account would post a link to each new video on their wall every week…………we wouldn’t be having this problem at all. Get to it people!
I love the videos and have watched them every week for the past few months. I am guilty of not linking them, solely because I am the only guy in my inner circle of friends who appreciates them (my gf walks out during them, for instance). Her loss. Anyways don’t stop doing these on account of non interest. It would be great if they continued, but if they don’t, I understand.
I have a facebook account, and I very, very, very much like the relative anonymity I have. I would never ever link anything to my facebook account outside of something already on facebook. My personal life and my online life are completely separated.
Keep this party train going! I look forward to the end of every week to see the CHUD video.
Not for nothing, but if you care about helping the site I’m sure you can find 15 minutes at night when not at work to check out the latest video, no? Not trying to be a dick, but I don’t think Nick and Renn count on people using the site to kill time at work only.
It was just free advice Michael. I get where you’re coming from and I don’t take it as you being a dick or anything. I have been working with content provider based websites for about 14 years, and the vast majority of the hits for story/article/news based sites comes during business hours. I have tons of metrics on video vs slideshow vs text content. They may not count on people using the site for the main purposes of killing time, but thats how most people do use it. It seems that the videos are a labor of love, so I hope they don’t stop, regardless. I’m sure Nick does have metrics for web traffic. I’d be curious, under your “latest” section, what are the core hours for donig the most traffic?
seen’em all.. adds so much to the site beyond a wall of white words emerging from the dark abyss.
Instead of creating yet another video that no one outside of the CHUD regulars will watch how about you spend that time finding a way to put up content that new people would be interested in? After all, if you get paid by obtaining unique hits for your site doesn’t it make sense to, y’know, do work that gets unique hits. Of course, that would new readers wouldn’t be willing to stroke your ego in that special way you like.
Or, you could get a job with that time and make sure all your staff have received their back pay? Just a thought.
First of all, you have no idea what you’re talking about. Secondly, go fuck yourself.
…I’m confused. Both of those things are online.
I, like many others enjoy the hell out of these videos. It really is something fun to look forward to at the end of the work week. For a brief period during the summer when I was working graveyard shifts I would use the videos as a calendar of sorts, telling me what day it was. Whenever a video went up that meant I had 2 more days until my 2 day off period. Weird shit, but overnights do that to you!
Anyways, as always I tweet, like and spread around each and every video as soon as I can! Appreciate the time and effort put into them. Probably one of the better video shows out there as far as filming quality goes! The comedy is up there too. Funnier than most “comedies” in release these days.
I don’t get why people aren’t attracted to these. Videos usually do well and you talk about current stuff.
PEOPLE, GET VIEWING!
