I’m personally not done with the found footage genre, but I know everyone else is. I have not seen Apollo 18, though I hear it was pretty terrible. I recently loved the ass off of Trollhunter, which is one of the most original films I’ve seen in a couple years at least.
This trailer for Chronicle, which shows 3 High School friends experimenting with their newfound powers (in which the trailer does a great job of explaining a little too cleanly how they get them, so spoiler-phobes might want to tread lightly) in school, in parking lots, and elsewhere.
I actually like it. And I like the idea of 3 friends developing superpowers but one of them becoming a villain. It has a very direct-to-TV feel to it, but it was written by Max Landis (son of John Landis) and directed by Josh Trank whose Big Fan kicked plenty of ass. So in that sense, there’s a slight pedigree behind it.
It may be yet another entry in the ever-decaying found footage genre, but I’m intrigued.

Wow, this sounds horrible, but it looks freaking fantastic.
I think a wad of John Landis’ used chewing gum could write a pretty good script, so I’m sure his son will do just fine.
Yeah, that does look refreshing. I got a guilty kick out of the first part since you know if anyone ever did develop powers they would do some stupid, juvenile shit first before taking on some responsibility. This could have been a good standard movie rather a found footage one. Not sure why they went that route.
