The new Men in Black film features Will Smith traveling back in time.
The same is required of audiences, because it’d take a time machine to bring us to when Men in Black was relevant and interesting. With that said, the appeal of Josh Brolin doing his best Tommy Lee Jones impersonation almost makes the whole endeavor worth it.
The premise of Barry Sonnenfeld’s flick is that Smith’s J has to travel back to when Lee’s K was young to prevent his death. Pop culture references, cute aliens, and kinetic filmmaking are sure to follow.
I have very low expectations for this, but it’s not about me is it. Watch the trailer below and come to your own amazing conclusion.

Gives me an all new reason to be sullen and reflective on Memorial Day.
Watching that, it’s hard to believe Will Smith was actually quite entertaining once. And that was one of the worst lip synchs I’ve seen in a while. Reminded me of a 70s kung-fu movie.
Yeah, I got a laugh from Brolin as Young K. But my god the rest of it feels highly dated. Even Wiggers don’t talk like Smith any more.
The graffiti alien was a great bit. Too bad it was ruined in a teaser trailer.
I hope Timecop happens in this.
There was a time when a sequel to MiB was appreciated, welcomed even. That time was 2002 or whenever the second one was released. And we all know how that one turned out. Hint: Not well. I can’t see myself seeing this, unless it totally blows the first one out of the water. My guess is, that it won’t.
I weep for how much better Django Unchained could’ve been had Smith not chose to do stuff like this.
I’m intrigued about Josh Brolin, the guy makes every movie he’s in a little bit better.
But what does it tell about my excitement for the project as a whole, when I can’t even bring myself to sit through a 2 minute trailer?
Right, that there is none…
I liked it. Yes, it’s hackneyed and has too many silver guns in it. But I want a cool sequel to the first film bad enough to want to like this enough to actually like it.
So there.
For me the highlight I’m expecting is Jemaine Clement as an alien. That’s something new to enjoy.
I am concerned though… while I enjoyed MIB 1 and 2, the same people did make Wild Wild West…
