Well here we go. It’s been online in SD for a few hours, but we like to keep things nice and high-res around here as much as possible, especially for something like this. The trailer is live at Apple, though not every person on the planet can see it apparently. I’m still not sure if it’s a region thing or what, but the site is not updating for me and many others (a problem I had for several hours with The Hobbit debut) though it’s definitely out there for most.
I’ve embedded a fresh, HD YouTube upload, but I assure you it will be yanked sooner rather than later, so hopefully Apple is working for you…
No two ways about it: that’s a pretty fucking glorious trailer. Huge, scary, familiar and yet fresh, this is undoubtedly an Alien prequel, even if there won’t ultimately be familiar xenomorphs (which is likely why they keep trying to distance the obviously related films). It’s tough to pick out which chilling shot or epic vista is most impressive, but this might be it for me:
…and who doesn’t love the title treatment and sound design that alludes back to the trailer for Scott’s original masterpiece?

It is what I had expected from Scott – incredible. I know this will be just the shot in the arm serious, scary sci-fi has been missing. I’m actually a bit scared right now thinking about what cold sweat nightmare concoctions Mr Scott has dreamed up for us (Alien is my all time scariest film). But, what I don’t get, is this “No Aliens” crap. How is that possible? While he says it, the trailer screams otherwise. There is just too many similarities for it not to be related to that iconic film and deliver to us an actual successor to it. If Ridley had wanted to distance himself and his movie from “Alien” he wouldn’t have made a movie (or trailer) that comes just short of smacking me in the head with a face-hugger!
But, alien or no, I WILL be there on opening day – with popcorn, soda, and eye-cover at the ready.

I’m not ashamed to say I jizzed my pants at that. Nice to see some Cronenberg-style bio-horror going on (that shot of the crew member clutching his head looks real ominous). I also believe there’s a frame of a skull being scanned that suspiciously resembles that of Mr Space Jockey.
He didn’t say no Aliens, he said no Xenomorphs.
2012 is going to be a hell of a fucking year, cinematically (and otherwise non?).

This really makes me want to watch Alien now, something The Hobbit trailer couldn’t do (to make me watch Fellowship).
FYI: The Alien blu-ray is utterly beautiful.

The Hobbit trailer made me want to watch The Hobbit. This trailer makes me want to watch Alien, as long as there’s still some shred of mystique left to that film.
That looked fantastic. Now for the difficult part: avoiding spoilers and reviews until I see it for myself.

Jesus Christ yes, that blu-ray of Alien is the first blu-ray that literally had my jaw dropping at how amazing it looked. It’s everything a blu-ray remaster should be, and really aside from some of the in-universe “futuristic” technology being…quite out of date (computer tech has come a loooooong way since the late 70’s), it really looked like a movie that could have been made far more recently than the 30+ years since its’ release.
Sorry. I fail to see the difference.
Yeah, Ridley Scott looks to be in fine form here, and the cast is stellar as well.
