While $60m made off of a $60m production of a third sequel may not seem like a recipe for a continued franchise, it’s a bit different when that third sequel’s foreign box office very nearly exceeds the total foreign receipts for all of the previous films combined and takes its worldwie total to a gnat’s ass from $300m. Weird: Notice that this Sony films starts with the traditional fake ad that, unlike previous trailers with their patently fake commercials for unrealistic products that tie into the franchise, this one may as well be a real commercial for Sony products and has no meta value at all. I wonder how many views they’ll lose to people clicking away because of such a convincing “faux” ad…
Regardless, at this point yeah, that looks like a Resident Evil movie trailer (set to trendy Tron music of course). I’ve seen not ‘a one of these films, but it may be time to catch up (especially since I’ve been getting unexpected and bizarre recommendations for Afterlife and even PWA’s Three Musketeers from people that matter lately).
Here’s the film’s synopsis and the giant still they floated around today, as well as one from Facebook. Also, Capcom appropriately announced the sixth RE game today as well.

I’ll grant that the trailer definitely seems to up the scale and retain the feel. And I sure wouldn’t fuck with this face:

Big fan of the franchise and LOVED seeing Afterlife in 3D. This trailer makes the movie look epic, and I can only salivate with anticipation to catch it when it hits theaters.
Renn Brown, I was leaning…against seeing the continuing adventures of…EEEEEEEvil Residents vs the…MILLAtant Ms. Jovovich! I think this film could make 2012 a…September To Remember!
Whoa whoa whoa, dude. I do not know who told you to watch Three Musketeers, but they are NOT your friends. I watched Three Musketeers cuz I have a huge bro-ner for Ray Stevenson, and it was awful. While the Musketeers themselves (actors and characters) are pretty cool, the lead-in played by Logan Lerman is annoying and not funny, the fight scenes are not very good, the costume and set design is bad, and the 3d wasn’t very good, either. Even if you love Ray Stevenson as much as I do, I would recommend Catherine Cookson’s Tide of Life over this.
But anyways, on the subject of Resident Evil, I’ve always hated the movies because I loved the games, that reasoning being that the games were about scraping by on a handful of bullets and some mashed up herbs and knowing when to fight or to run, whereas the movies are just about slomo dog kicking. . . though, to be fair, the more recent Resident Evil games have been more about action. . . anyways, the 3d for Afterlife was actually really good, and some of the fight scenes were pretty neat, so, I’ll probably check this one out, honestly.
I only saw the first one, it was cheesy fun, but not compelling enough for me to continue with the series. But, Milla Jovovich is hot, so good for her that she was able to make a career out of this – especially since the “Kuffs” franchise never really took off.
That looked utterly ridiculous, even for this franchise. They really don’t care anymore do they?
Don’t listen, Renn. This franchise is baby aids.
