I like Bryan Singer and I enjoy most of his films. I was not impressed by the recent trailer for Jack the Giant Killer though. Apparently Warner Brothers isn’t too impressed with the film either…….since they just postponed it NINE MONTHS.
Jack was originally set to start fucking up the lives of vertical overachievers on June 15th of this year. Instead, said giant harassment will occur on March 15th, 2013. No reason has been given for the delay at this time, but it looks to me like the film will probably be receiving a hefty dose of reshoots. Rock of Ages has been bumped back a few weeks to take its place.
Sorry Bryan, but it smells like you went poopy.

Ouch…Bryan, what the hell happened man?
Bryan’s always been dull.
He’s gonna go the way of Shyamalan soon, a couple of decent movies that got him on the map, and then a bunch of turds that quickly sink a career.
Whatcha’ mean ‘he’s gonna’? He’s been in the most dull slump since Apt Pupil. He can’t make a film with a decent story arc. It’s just delaying the pain or boredom that is the next instalment of Singer’s ever-decreasing, yet amazingly enduring, career.
Lots of retconning Singer’s filmography these days. “He’s been in the most dull slump since Apt Pupil?” Huh? The dude single-handedly kick-started the modern super-hero genre (the merits of which are, admittedly, debatable) with two X-Men films that were far better than they had any right to be. The first film was a bit hamstrung by a lack of confidence-dollars from the studio, but after its success, Singer got to play, and X2 remains, to this day, one of the best examples of its kind.
Yes, Superman Returns was a dull, bloated, self-important disaster. No argument there. But Valkyrie is a terrific little flick which suffered unjustly from both Superman-aftertaste and the lingering effects of Tom Cruise’s public meltdown.
By my count, that’s two stellar films (The Usual Suspects and X2), two very good films (Valkyrie and Apt Pupil), and one stinker. That’s terrific track record.
The trailer for Jack the Giant Killer looked, to me, like just another silly summer fxtravaganza, and I’m withholding judgment.
I never liked Singer’s X-Men flicks -or even the X-Men- and the problems with his films without Chris MacQuarrie are the same, they collapse after the second act or are just plain dull and I’ve always felt that so no retconning from me. He wants to make big-budget films yet he doesn’t have the judgement to pull them off.
