“Not bad, Whedon.” That’s about my only reaction to this new pic of the Emerald Avenger that ScreenRant is running. That, and the fact that holy shit does that look like Lou Ferrigno. And I don’t mean Lou Ferrigno from his days on The Incredible Hulk. I mean it looks like Lou Ferrigno now. Dude signed one of my Hulk hands at NY Comic Con a few years back and had you shown me the above picture I would have sworn it was taken on that very day.
The Avengers hits theaters on May 4th with Mark Ruffalo in the Banner / mo-cap role. Lou Ferrigno hits weights every day of the year, and he always brings it.

I have no problem with Hulk patterned after Ferrigno, or at least a Hulk NOT patterned after the actor playing Banner. I liked the design in Incredible Hulk, because it DIDN’T look like Edward Norton, and I imagine it saves somebody a few bucks if they aren’t constantly having to re-design Hulk out of necessity, if it’s something they can use to promote the character again and again. It’s not like we’re ever going to see Bana Hulk again, but I would have preferred bringing him back into the fold instead of hiring Ruffalo.
Agreed. I’ve always felt Eric Bana deserved another shot at the part, and that’s not just because I think Ang Lee’s HULK is often unfairly lambasted by critics and nerds alike.

I agree with the second part of your comment, but if I was casting a wimpy scientist, Eric Bana would be about #217 on my list.
While I like Bana as an actor NOW, I didn’t think he was a good choice for the first Hulk film, because man, is the first half of that movie SLOW, and to be stuck with an unknown (to the U.S., at the time anyway) for a very talky and jargon-filled hour made it go by even that much slower. While I thought that Norton was fine in the sequel, I think I would have been happier with someone like him in the FIRST film, a more established actor that I know and enjoy, especially when there wasn’t going to be any action for a long time. Instead, I was left thinking “Who the hell is this dude, and where’s the Hulk already?”.

I don’t think Ang Lee was actually GOING for the “nerdy scientist” archetype with his version of Banner. If anything, he wanted to cast an actor who looked as if he already had a bit of the “Hulk” in him.
Look at it this way: Would an actor like Ruffalo really be any higher on your list?
Incredible Hulk is categorically NOT a sequel to Hulk. Every single story detail is different with the sole, insignificant exception of the fact that it begins in the same general geographic location where Hulk ends. They are absolutely, inarguably separate pieces of work. I wonder, had the Norton Hulk’s origin been dealt with as a major portion of the plot (utterly unnecessarily), rather than just being shown as part of the opening credits, would there still be confusion?
Does anyone believe that 2011’s Captain America is a prequel to the Albert Pyun version? Or that Samuel L. Jackson is replacing David Hasselhoff as the SAME Nick Fury?
IMDB has Ferrigno listed as the “voice” of Hulk in Avengers. Hats off for basic search skills.
