Several behind the scenes photos of the now filming Star Trek sequel have surfaced, and they involve Spock battling with Benedict Cumberbatch who is the new villain. I particularly love the use of the Vulcan nerve pinch.
The reboot film was one of the best films of 2009, and I’ve been a full fledged Star Trek fan since my Father introduced me to the series at about the age of 4 via The Next Generation which had just recently begun airing on tv. I have complete faith that this sequel will be just as good, or even better than the first one.

I have a feeling Cumberbatch is going to own this film. Could well be the best Trek villain since Ricardo Montalban. The guy has incredible acting chops and presence.
One of the best films of 2009?
I liked the sense of fun this film had and everything that had to do with the cast and the interaction of their characters, but it didn’t make up for the plot holes and stupidity of the main story and especially the villain.
Everyone rips the Transformers films (rightly so) but this somehow gets a pass. I don’t get it.
Rene F. Rangel, I do…Like Abrams Re-Boot of Star Trek. However, the only…original cast film, that it is better than is…Star Trek V: The Final Frontier! Maybe now that Captain Kirk and Crew will go…Out There, Seeking…New life and new civilizations…Boldly Going where…No Man Has Gone…BEFORE!
It gets a pass *because* of the character dynamics, which were unusually well-rendered for this or any kind of film. The fact that the plot was a little silly, well… it was going for fantasy more than hard sci fi. I give it a pass because I’m hopeful that that science fiction elements will begin to come into focus in the following film.
Because Star Trek 2009 had the sort of forgivable time-travel plotholes only geeks obsess over, while the Transformers films are bafflingly idiotic on every conceivable level?
Duke, for once your use of ellipses is entirely appropriate.
I don’t mean the time travel stuff. I mean that the villain in this film is so angry at Spock who just tried to help and failed, that he hatches a revenge plot against Spock FOR YEARS instead of warning Romulus. Okay, he is crazy, but come on.
I don’t know…every time I see a new image out of this franchise, I keep getting the feeling J.J. Abrams would be more comfortable directing a STAR WARS movie.
I agree. I actually disliked this new Trek a great deal. I thought Pine and Quinto had no chemistry together. They didn’t even come off as a pair who’d stay in the same room together, let alone strike up a life long friendship.
Yeah, agreed, the villain’s motivation in Trek 09 is pretty dumb. But “pretty dumb” doesn’t even begin to cover the plot points of every single Transformers movie.
I enjoyed ST ’09, and I’m hoping this one will be better.
As for TF- there’s no comparison. The characters are weak, the plot lame, poor exposition, etc. I mean, I liked the first, loathed the second, and enjoyed the action of the 3rd. But seriously- the actors in ST ’09 did SO much to make their characters both faithful to the originals AND be their own all at the same time. You can’t tell me that Shia or Megan or the new love interest had any kind of depth.
So, while ST ’09 might have issues, it is a masterpiece compared to ANY of the TFs.

Maybe Armageddon is a better comparison: Both films blew me away in the cinema until my brain recovered and asked “wait, WHAT?”
I agree with you guys that the Transformerses are worse than Trek’09 but that’s because almost everything in them is horrible apart from VFX, SFX and the camerawork before editing happened.

Agreed. The only way to make his name even more representative of the UK would be if it were Britain Englishmanson.
