I’m certainly in. I like the scale of it, still seems like a ton of fun, but I’m wondering how boosted Michael Bay’s ego is feeling right now, because damn if this doesn’t look like a reskin of Dark of the Moon with comic book characters. Like, damn.

Diggin’ that shot of Hulk grabbin’ Iron Man.
A little, but I’d say it’s a massive testament to the incredible ambition on display here that it’s recalling the city-demolishing scale of the Transformers films, which feature arguably the most destruction ever portrayed in a movie. I don’t how you would destroy a whole city through prolonged action sequences and not recall Transformers, as that’s probably the only movie ever to actually do so in such a fashion.
Regardless, it’s sort of a stupid complaint. This trailer rocked my fucking face off.

Renn Brown, I cannot wait to see the Avengers…ASSEMBLE, in theaters Nationwide on May 4th! The action looks…Epic!
Once again, can you believe that scene was shot in downtown Cleveland?
I’m still concerned that we’re only seeing stuff from the same two action scenes again. The obvious mid movie fight between Thor and Cap and Stark, where they essentially test each other out, and then the grand poobah finale. Still, this is the most exciting piece of advertising so far.

That serpent thing is a bit unfortunate. No way it wasn’t created after TF3 came out. And yeah, they’re rocking a weird mix of Inception music cues and TF electronicalized sound effects. Still touches of the “TV Look” I fear from Whedon – one thing Bay never does is look like TV.

It’s funny how somehow Thor’s costume can be pulled off onscreen, but Captain America still looks a lot like somebody at Comic Con – I’m not sure there’s really any way to really pull off that costume. Hopefully his mask is ripped off fairly quickly during battle. But other than that, this looks great. I think it’s absolutely amazing we’re getting this film at all – and the path to get here (creating the individual origin films) has to represent some of the most ambitious long term planning in the history of Hollywood. Now, we just need a “Days of Future Past” X-men film….
You pegged it! The idea that they were willing to apply a comic book model to blockbuster film making is pretty cool. I’ll keep any nitpicking and whinery to myself until after I see the whole thing.
