I have to be careful. I made fun of James Wan’s hair a year ago and am a marked man in the eyes of the Saw team. I am a huge nonfan of their output and I have made a concerted effort to have an open mind. So, instead of ripping things or being a sarcastic gentleman I will let the work speak for itself. Behold the remake of an 80’s film that was good if you only saw the poster and never watched the film. Mother’s Day, from Darren Lynn Bousman. Nothing new, even beyond the “remake” status. If done with appropriate wit — which I’m sure Bousman is capable of — it might be interesting. Nice to see De Mornay again, last time was that horrific Shining thing King did.
i saw this on dvd a few months ago, it came out in 2011 in the UK,
it was actually pretty good.
I also saw this, and I didn’t think it was anything special. I actually think it was close to the Prom Night remake (the worst horror remake ever?), just an almost a tame remake. It’s been a while since I saw it, but I didn’t think there was barely any gore and after the initial setup, I thought it was extremely predictable and overacted. The original was made by Troma, and was as much exploitation as it was horror. While we didn’t need torture porn normally turned in by these guys, I would have much preferred it to stick to its roots. I didn’t think it was horrible, but just time I could have spent on something better.
