HunterTarantino: Who asked for Red 2?
Rene (Mr.Eko): I ASKED FOR RED 2. “I’M GETTIN’ THE PIG!”
HunterTarantino: Besides you, Rene.
Yes, that was a conversation between myself and fellow CHUD article contributor Mike Flynn. I’m a big fan of Red*. I found it to be a lot of fun, and basically a “Grumpy Old Expendables” type of adventure.
The sequel’s been announced for some time, and it’s just been recently announced that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Lee Byun Hun (Storm Shadow from G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra) have joined the cast. Seems like everyone who survived the first one is returning, and I’m especially happy that Malkovich is returning, because he stole the show. No word yet on what kind of adventure happens this time around, but it will most likely result in more explosions and shootouts, and more people getting blown up with a grenade launcher.
*I came across the original graphic novel that inspired Red, and it’s quite different than the movie. The movie has quite a bit of the stuff from the graphic novel, but let’s just say that the ending doesn’t leave much room for a sequel.

The first one was a pretty undemanding actioner – I certainly wasn’t demanding a sequel, but hopefully, like The Expendables, the 2nd try can improve on the first.
I preferred RED when it starred Brain Cox and his dog.
Helen Mirren’s nipples demanded Red 2. They will not be contained!
