Film looks… eh, okay.
But man that costume is so bad. It like if if Batman Begins had Bale waring the silver batsuit from Batman and Robin through the whole thing.
 

Man.  This is designed to generate interest.  Not in this viewer I guess.  I walk away feeling, “Damn.  That’s the best they got?”  I mean, in theory all the best parts should be saved for the full viewing experience, but it seems all that’s supposed to interest me in this preview is mediocre at best.  I’m not a huge fan of the suit, but I have a larger problem: Peter Parker doesn’t come off as likable.  I realize he’s supposed to be a bit snarky, but this leans too much into douchebaggery.  It could be solely the performance or just the scenes they chose to show.

Wonder if Osborn will make an appearance…

Yes.  I am intrigued.

I refuse to shit all over something that hasn’t been released yet based on shared internet psychosis.  It’s way too easy to go into this thing with a negative agenda.  We’ve been hearing a lot of nonsense like “it’s the Twilight version of Spider-Man” since before a frame was shot.  And since the day we were given actual footage people have found interesting ways to justify their misplaced anger from what they saw in order to vehemently stand behind that (narrow, self-righteous) point of view.  Me, I haven’t seen an ounce of it in any of the trailers.  Just because Parker’s in High School for this movie doesn’t mean everyone’s an emo doucheturd.  Just because they’ve tweaked his origin doesn’t mean they’ve ruined the concept of Spidey (they changed shit in Raimi’s too, remember?) in favor of pandering to a tween crowd.  And the complaints about the suit are just… weird.  Fetishistic weird.

Also, I’m not trying to hit the other extreme here.  This movie might totally blow.  What bugs me the most, though, is that people seem to WANT it to be awful.  Which, simply put, is really, really fucking stupid.

Was that C Thomas Howell?!  WOLVERINES!!

Hrm. I definitely like Garfield for the part, and I love that he’s the wisecracking Spidey from the comics. The rescuing-the-kid-from-the-car bit worked really well for me (giving the kid the mask was kind of brilliant) but the rest of it didn’t get me too pumped. I’m trying to keep an open mind about the whole Parker’s father storyline, but it just seems like a terrible idea. I guess we’ll see if it actually works in the context of the whole shebang.

So Parker makes a costume and mask to hide his identity, but takes his mask off every 5 seconds so all of New York can see his face. Same thing happened in Raimi’s Doc Ock movie when Parker saved that runaway train. Just dumb beyond all reason and logic.

Needs more dubstep.
