It’s hard to believe, but its been 11 years since Jurassic Park III was in theaters. I’ll never forget seeing it, as it was one of the rare times I sat in one of the lower level rows in the theater with my neck crooked up as the entire theater was packed by the time I got in. I still had fun with the film, as seeing Alan Grant back on the bigscreen was cool.
Jurassic Park 4 has been in development hell since that same time period. The most common rumors being that dinosaurs would literally be “weaponized” and they would have guns and maybe some more intelligence (shouldn’t they get Turok in here then?) and other rumors deal with Dennis Nedry’s shaving cream can being discovered and used to breed more dinosaurs. Things have been pretty stagnant aside from Spielberg’s quote of “We’re working on it.”
Spielberg must really be aiming for quality, as now the writers of one of the best films of last year: Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, have been hired to script the fourth entry in this Dino Crisis (beaucoup point if you get that reference).
Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver did an amazing job with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. It was my top film of 2011 on my best of list, and this only means that Spielberg and co. don’t want just another run of the mill sequel. They want it to be worth the wait.
I just hope they get Goldblum back. Dr. Ian Malcolm was my favorite from the first one, and even though Pete “To collect my fee. Mr. Ludlow. To Collect my fee.” Postlewaite outdid him in the sequel, he was still pretty cool. Seeing Goldblum and a returning Sam Neill together again would be awesome too.

as long as they stay away from the weaponized-dinos bs and make something original i’m all for it. oh and id rather Speilberg NOT direct it.

Anyone old enough to have owned an original Playstation should have no problem, then, since the first was pretty damn popular in it’s time (a quick wiki search reveals it sold 2.4 million copies, so…maybe “immensely popular” would be a better summation).
(BTW, Dino Crisis 2 is far superior to the original in every way. The third game was a complete pile of shit and killed the series, though Dino Stalker (the light gun game) was fairly decent.)
Well he only directed the first one, so I assume he’d only produce unless it’s his next project after Robopocalypse. If that turns out well, I’d have no problem with it.
Honestly when I clicked on this article I thought it was an announcement that Rupert Wyatt was tabbed to direct, which would be ABSO LUTELY fantastic as well.
If by “only directing the first one” you mean he directed the first and second one, then you’d be correct.
Screw this franchise.

Once it gets rolling, I’m totally down for carpooling to the auditions. Who the fuck wants to get eaten by a dinosaur? I know I do.
If they’re deadly serious about returning to this particular pond, why not take things to the next level of retarded/awesome and have a grown-up Tim and Lex going toe-to-toe with dinosaur/human hybrids?
The “2”s are always the best ones. Resident Evil 2. Tomb Raider 2. Silent Hill 2. The second Ratchet and Clank. Improvements over the original game that just wowed in the story and gameplay department. Classics that drove the respective serieses through even some dumb sequels. Except Ratchet and Clank never got bad.
They wouldn’t try to pre-boot-make it, would they?
They both seemed too well-adjusted post-JP1 to have a reason to get mixed up in all this dinosaur nonsense again. Though it’s an excellent idea if they could do it without feeling shoehorned in. It would at least feel more fresh than bringing back Grant or Malcolm again.
Ah who am I kidding, I’m a sucker for Goldblum. I’d kill to see him square off with the T-Rex again.
I don’t think there were ever enough Jurassic Park movies. I know that has at least something to do with Stan Winston and Michael Crichton having passed away since the last one came out. Likely that’s the reason why Spielberg won’t go back to direct one as that would be two huge friends missing from the experience. But I still want another one of these. They need to take a chance and go really out there with it. And bring all the survivors back from the original while you’re at it.
