The zombie-tidalwave concept was less weird to my eyes/brain this time – starting to see them more akin to the ants in Crystal Skull than 28days rage zombies. I guess this is the first movie where they’re able throw immense amounts of money at showing the scale/effect of millions of zombies going apeshit in a limited space.
 
 

Haven’t read the book(s) to know how this is measuring up (though the impression I get from friends that have read them is that this looks like quite a departure) but damn if it doesn’t feel big.
 

Well, I guess there is no need for me to watch the first act now. 

Wow, those giant crowd shots of zombies looked awful. But other than that I thought it was good. Definitely digging the scope and the promise of seeing the military taking on the zombies.

The book deserved better. 

So they basically took the book, tore off the cover, threw the rest away and said: “Lets just make a movie that fits this title. And throw a bunch of money at Pitt.”. Other than that, this looks pretty freaking great to me.

This. Looks. Terrible. Nothing like the book, and just plain bad. Save yourselves a lot of pain and suffering and track down the audiobook version instead. The cast includes: Max Brooks (as himself), Alan Alda, Carl Reiner, Jürgen Prochnow, Mark Hamill, Henry Rollins, Eamonn Walker John Turturro, Rob Reiner and Jay O. Sanders.

Sure, Adam…there isn’t anything I saw in that trailer that remotely relates to the book.  Except for the zombies.  That said…this film looks awesome.  I cannot imagine how the style from the book would translate into a movie that anyone would sit still for.  Personally looking forward to this one.

Since this is a movie where rage-filled zombies can do things an actual group of humans would never be capable of, no matter how coked to their eyeballs they were on adrenaline, I shouldn’t bother to be concerned by the moment where the dump truck manages to wipe out the bike cop but none of the cars that were in the previous three shots end up slamming into Pitt or his family and killing them all. Because continuity or the laws of physics would be silly, right?
HAHAHA, this is going to be Roland Emmerich bad but as is typical with this site, people will line up for this horseshit just because it has big effects.

Well, it looks like post-9/11 trauma of the first decade of the 21st century has been fully converted to irreverent pop culture entertainment for the second. Charming.

Wow, nothing from the actual book in this flick.  The “reporter” in the book didn’t have a family that I can recall, also, I don’t think he ever picked up a gun, just was relayed stories of the zombie invasion from across the world.  I also think the zombies were more Romero-esque in that they were not fast running zombies.  Most unrealistic thing in this trailer is Brad Pitt getting a massive downgrade from Angelina Jolie to the homely girl from Big Love.  I mean, I can’t suspend reality enough to believe he settled for her…she must have a GREAT personality.

The book is better than it has any right to be. This? Well, I don’t think the same will hold true for the movie.

Not being like the book will be a blessing for this film, in my opinion.  I found the narrative style to be dull, repetitive, and excruciating at times.  I loved the appendices and The Zombie Survival Guide, however.
