The promotional arm of Warner Bros. just wrapped a webinar detailing their upcoming slate for advertisers. Most of it fluff, though a few things regarding WB / Legendary’s upcoming Godzilla reboot got my source’s attention. In the meeting, the following was 100% confirmed:
- The film will feature more than one monster, confirming that two new monsters will also be wreaking havoc – this in addition to the big guy.
- Warner Bros. made it clear that their interpretation of the material “follows the story of a solider” and is “way different” than the Toho Godzilla films.
This isn’t “grain of salt” news, as whatever script they have before Frank Darabont gets his crack features the above information. The fact they’re rolling this info to advertisers indicates the likeliness of Godzilla facing off against a couple of new beasts.
What are your thoughts? Does any of this matter with Pacific Rim on the horizon, or did Gareth Edwards’ serious Godzilla film suddenly become more interesting? At the very least, it just got more crowded.

Sounds like they’re adapting Godzilla: The Half-Century War, by J. Stokoe. It’s brilliant. One of the finest Godzilla stories ever told and we’re only on issue #4. Tackles Godzilla through the ages from the perspective of a Japanese soldier who’s one of the first to engage in battle with Godzilla.
I’m on issue #2 of that series. Glad to hear the story holds up to support the AMAZING artwork.
I’ll admit it’s tough to get excited about a Godzilla movie when Pacific Rim is looking to seriously up the ante but more giant monsters is better than no giant monsters.
Tim Kelly, I am not really sure yet. Some…Key things need to be mentioned. Can he breathe fire? Does Godzilla become an ally or is he an enemy. The US version of Godzilla has to at least make the Big G a…Fire Breathing Kaiju. Otherwise, I have…Zero Interest.

godzilla isnt green. he is charcoal grey. in godzilla millenium and g vs megaguirus the suit did have a slight green tint to it but it was really dark. im constantly confused by people thinking the big g is green, i guess it stems from the marvel comic book series and the hanna barbera cartoon from the 70s.

I liked Final Wars but I’m a Don “The Predator” Frye completist.
I had a feeling they’d introduce new monsters with this one, as opposed to rolling out old war horses like Ghidorah and Mothra. I think its the first interesting news about this movie so far. I think what makes the latter days movies a bore is how they kept rolling out the same tired adversaries again and again.
I’m pretty apathetic about the whole thing. Every big summer movie of the past 7 years has had big CGI monsters/robots knocking big CGI buildings down while guys with Ben Affleck hair duck around and look at it all wide eyed.
It wouldn’t be hard to do something really awesome with Godzilla, I liked the 80s films the best even though they move at a snails pace they had the best ideas and arguably the coolest visuals. I dunno, I can kind of guess how movies will play out before I see them, this movie will have to be seriously badass to get me interested at all as I’m not really satisfied with the current motions movies go through now.
