As the Sucker Punch reaction becomes even more vicious and hyperbolic, Warner Bros wants you to put your thoughts towards The Next Big Thing: Superman
So, in the middle of a Sunday afternoon, they released their second biggest casting announcement. Although, if I remember rightly, they dropped Henry Cavill’s casting in a similarly “off” time, so maybe Sunday is simply the new Monday.
The news is, of course, that they’ve cast Lois Lane. According to Heat Vision, it’s none other than Amy Adams.
“Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about,” Snyder said in an official statement. “So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful.”
I love Amy Adams. You love Amy Adams. She’s actually someone who can play smart and spunky, but seemingly not notice the guy in glasses who shares her newsdesk looks remarkably like Metropolis’ greatest hero. She’s a great pick, and there’s not much more I can say. It doesn’t matter anyway, Sucker Punch will still dominate this unrelated story.

Elisabeth Rappe, Amy Adams is…Perfectly Cast, as Lois Lane. The news is just…Super…Man, um…Gal! I do hope that Zod, Non and Ursa are indeed the…Supervillains of, Superman The Man Of Steel!
HOT! This is spectacular news! I love it. You know what, fuck it, let her keep the red hair even. This makes me excited. This may turn out to be the best cast Snyder film yet. Lois is so key, their love is probably one of the most special things in comic history (I kinda teared up about it during the animated adaptation of All-Star Superman). So good, Amy’s going to do such a good job.
Speaking of off topic, just want to say that if there was ever one CHUD writer I’d want to read a Sucker Punch review from, it’d be the always awesome Elizabeth Rappe. Please???
I agree. I would love to hear a woman’s perspective on Sucker Punch. As far as Amy Adams goes, (insert pic of Homer drooling here). She’ll be fantastic.

I probably wouldn’t have known this if I didn’t make myself watch the first 9 seasons over last summer, but Amy Adams was in one of the first episodes of “Smallville”, so there’s already sort of a Superman connection. She was one of the first of what had to be like 1000 people that Clark had to fight that got powers from the “meteor rocks”.
Ah man, well at least check it out, it’s fucking bonkers. In a good way. The action pieces were so clear and so well choreographed it made me completely excited for Superman.
I had that dream too, but Adam’s will fucking rock it. The selection here could have been SOOOOO bad we dodged a major bullet.

I totally get what you’re saying Elisabeth, but to me the quality of a director’s most recent film (and one that is very much an undiluted product of his own sensibilities) is entirely relevant to his next film. Snyder is very much a director whose jury is still out… undoubtedly stylish but seemingly ill at ease with character and story. Granted, I haven’t seen ‘Sucker Punch’ and most likely won’t, but my favourite film of his (by some margin) is still ‘Dawn of the Dead’, and I have no real compulsion to see it beyond my initial theatrical viewing.
‘Superman’ needs to be a spectacle, but first and foremost, it needs heart. Adams is a step in the right direction, but the stench of ‘Sucker Punch’ will surely play a big part in how much the studio trusts his decisions from here on out, and how much he may even trust his own.
I third (or fourth) the call for an Elisabeth review of Sucker Punch. Hasn’t even come out here yet, but I’m still really itching to see it, even given all the negative reviews.
Zack Snyder is a director who I will always watch his films. I honestly couldn’t care less if they were polished turds, they are some downright awesome looking films that he has created and whilst they may lack substance, they definitely do look absolutely brilliant. So, given I did love Superman Returns, I’m excited for Snyder’s Superman because, well, Superman I find is relatively bland, and if it looks good, then that’s all that matters really. To me at least. Yes, yes, looks aren’t everything, but it does help.
