I’m sorry, I’ve got no other response. With zero emotional investment in the Star Wars franchise (I love them as great and classic movies, don’t get me wrong), it’s tough for me to react otherwise to George Lucas’ now decades-long act of performance art that shows he understood the art of large-scale trolling long before any among 4Chan, Anonymous, or lulzsec even touched a keyboard. I just have to chuckle at the sheer incessant audacity with which Lucas gives SW fanboys the finger, and that for all the supposed apathy out there, how clockwork-like the response has become.
So what’s up this time? You’re likely aware that Star Wars is finally hitting Blu-ray, and may have even crossed your fingers for a while that they would include untouched original versions. That bubble has long since been burst, but now comes an added “fuck you” in the form of a little bit of dialogue tweaking…
Taking one of the most frequently meme’d moments in the entire garbage prequel trilogy, Lucas has now added two cries of “NO!” from Darth Vader as he tortures Luke, thus bringing the franchise full circle around and invariably linking Return of the Jedi with Revenge of the Sith in one more shitty way forever. I mean damn, that he may have added a frequently lambasted moment into a scene in which the old Emperor uncomfortably tortures the young hero is some serious meta-psychology shit. Is Lucas unknowingly begging us to toss him into a giant spaceship chasm?
BadassDigest has stated that this is a confirmed “enhancement” and that the video below represents another sad reality for Star Wars fans. What is also out there (but not as emphatically confirmed) is that A New Hope has a bit a tweak as well, in the form of a hilarious new cry from Obi-Wan to run off the sand people around Luke’s speeder. That’s below.
If either or both are true, my genuine condolences to anyone who this affects. What a cruel prank this fucking guy continues to pull.

I’m with you, Renn. I can give this nothing but laughter. It seems like Lucas is now just changing things for the sake of changing them. He’s already changed Obi-Wan’s scream for the 2004 DVD. Change it again? Why not?
jesus suffering fuck. That was terrible.
I wish I still cared enough for this to bother me. But, since I’m not buying these Blu-Rays anyway, I really, really don’t.
I do have to thank George Lucas, though, for helping me grow up a little. There was a pretty substantial place in my heart where Star Wars lived for decades that I have since filled with better stuff, thanks to his lack of vision and incessant re-tweaking.
+1 to Costello, who pretty much ripped my thoughts out of my brain. In the months leading up to the prequels, I was SUCH a SW junkie and then after Revenge of the Sith, I just had no love left for SW at all. This is the nail in the coffin. I’ll go watch my old original trilogy vhs before I ever buy this crap.
The shitty quality of the material Lucas keeps adding is what slays me, not what is apparently a need to endlessly tinker.
If Lucas isn’t trolling the people who made him rich, he’s worse than out of touch. I don’t even feel comfortable laughing at this stuff anymore. It’s like laughing at a victim of dementia.
Wow, so dumb.
It sounds more like he’s conditioning trained apes for domestic chores than protesting his long lost son being tortured.
Thank the Maker for editing software and file-sharing; people will always be able to erase his mistakes and share their own proper versions. Remember ‘The Phantom Edit’? I expect we’ll start seeing loads more stuff like that soon.
It’s like being groped repeatedly as a teenager by the guy next door who treated you so good as a child, going through some treatment, getting over it, and then years later the same fuckwad shows up on your porch with his dick in his hand trying to rub it on your cheek and asking for $100 cash for the effort.
NO GEORGE, I WILL NOT BE FOOLED INTO LETTING YOU FONDLE ME AGAIN. QUIT SWEET TALKING ME WITH YOUR TWO-BIT I’M A NEW MAN B.S., YOU BEARDED FUCKING PERVERTED FREAK.
When do we put this guy on a sex offender registry and move his aging child-fuckery ass out of San Fran? All I want to know.
God in Heaven!!!!!!! There comes a point where coming full circle means you’re trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, jackass!!
Let ME retort!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
God!!! Seriously???!!! Fuck you, George Lucas! At least the dvd versions came with the original versions of the original trilogy on the second discs in each individual copy. Those are like gold now and thank God I actually bought them. I mean, I finally have a blu ray player now but go to hell!!!
“Lucasfilm – Pissing on your childhood since 1997“
Who cares? Greedo shooting first is still the worst change ever.
Everything else is minor by comparison.
I’m waiting for the day when Lucas, with mild Alzheimers, changes the line in Empire to “No, Obi-Wan killed your father!” (the line Dave Prowse thought Vader said) therby fucking the whole narrative consistency of the series. You KNOW it’s gonna happen.
Just got a mental image of that scene in Tombstone where Kurt Russell walks right into the middle of the firefight and keeps repeating, “NO! NO!,” all the while blowing baddies away. Except, you know, with Darth Vader instead of Wyatt Earp. Which, conceptually, is actually less silly than the above video.
Wow. It’s so freeing to be able to laugh at Star Wars. Again, thank you, George Lucas.
Speaking as a guy with a Star Wars tattoo, I don’t think either clip is all that bad. Not great “improvements” mind you but not bad. The howl is actually interesting. It’s not like the Sandpeople howl at Obi-Won first or anything. As far as the nooooo….meh, Jedi is worse than Phantom Menace. yeah, I said it. Fuck Jedi. Worst of the six. So throwing a token “nooooooooooo” into there is just the cherry on a shit sundae. Besides, if you are really upset about this, then don’t buy the blu-ray. You’ll live, you girlfriend-less fan boy.
You think Jedi is worse than Clones? You clearly got that tattoo on your brain.
First Scene: Just the first “No” would have been OK. Completely unnecessary, but OK. The second one? Yeah, that pulls it straight into terrible-town.
Second scene: Meh, doesn’t make any difference to me either way.
Even more fun: The scuttlebutt is that all those “fixes” that Lucasfilm was talking a great game about last week are very, very selective applied, even within the same scene(s). That practically borders on false advertising, if you ask me. “No really, we fixed all the lightsabers…except where we didn’t!”
As someone that long ago accepted that I was always going to love Star Wars come hell or high water, I do find the hyperbolic reactions online amusing, though I wouldn’t shed any tears if this “biggest blu-ray release of all time” ends up falling flat on its’ face.
I agree, Triple M.
That and the annoying scene soon after of Han with a CGI Jabba.
It looks so terrible, so badly composed, that I shed a tear every time I see it.
And Han steps on Jabba’s freakin’ tail – COMEDY, KIDS!!!
As Stiglets above proves, the “fanboys” are fine with this shit. It’s the geeks Lucas is giving the fuck-you to. Even if it wasn’t Star Wars, it’d still be fucking outrageous. The guy is taking the basic good film-making out of the movies.
Though must agree, it’s getting so absurd that the Performance Art gag is almost an apt factual observation. It’s truly a bizarre thing happening. Utterly bonkers.
I can’t laugh at this. It just makes me sad. Not like emo, crying in my bedroom sad. More disappointed. I love film, of all kinds, and Star Wars was the gateway into this world for me. But that’s all it is now. A means to an end when it used to be the end all, be all. Well, I’ll continue to love film and continue to be a geek and continue to get excited over stuff, but the Star Wars book? She’s closed.
I actually think this is a fascinating marketing ploy. He keeps fucking with the originals knowing the SF fanbase will buy them for at least the Blu-ray transfer. Fast forward two years, and he releases a special edition Blu-ray original trilogy with the theatrical versions. What a great way to continue milking money out of the SW fanbase.
BTW – OleJackBurton, you are one handsome devil.
I really don’t see what the big uproar is about. At the end of the day, they are his movies. It’s not like the man wasn’t in it for the money from the gate…from the countless re-releases of A New Hope prior to Empire to the stranglehold on marketing. That being said, I really don’t want to see the theatrical releases anymore. They were awesome when I was a kid, but I’m done with them. Do I like all of the additions? No, but you have to take the good with the bad. Do, I like Greedo shooting first? No, but I do like the panoramic CGI view of Mos Eisley. I like enhanced lightsabers. I enjoy seeing tie fighters without the awkward gray matte. I generally like the fact that the majority of the changes update the films and usher in a new fan base. AS far as Vader’s “No” goes, it is a minor change and establishes a link between ROTJ Vader and ROTS Anakin…I’m ok with that. The Obi-Wan dragon thing, I can only assume this is to accurately mimic the sound made by the actual dragon thing in Episode II. Also, ok with that, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if I am or not…still his movies. I’ll actually buy this set, and wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of the nay sayers in this post do the same thing.
