Opening day in the states brings a new eye-catching poster, and a new rating in the UK.

I don't think that can be a real poster. No way the MPAA would approve it. If I am mistaken about that, then color me surprised

It's a gross image, though it seems to exist for shock value rather than anything to do with the subject of the films (as far as I know, seeing as I've not seen the sequel)

I'm not particularly looking forward to the film, but that poster is all kinds of great. The eventual Criterion already has its cover image.

That's the thing though, who gives a shit what the MPAA approves? Their endorsement doesn't make it real. You'll see a movie's poster a couple times printed in a theater maybe, compared to the thousands of times you'll see it online. They're finally wising up to the fact that they market things however the fuck they want. We don't have to have "red-band" spots anymore, they can just cut trailers how they want to cut them. Which is pretty much returning to how it was done (for exploitation films at least) back in the day.

I don't care about the MPAA, and I am glad films have found more freedom in marketing things with the Internet. It riles me up whenever I read about movies like ZACK AND MIRI (or even SAW, for that matter) getting their art vetoed by a bunch of humorless stiffs

With that said. I just wish there was some sort of official vocabulary we could use that would make clear when we're talking about posters that a studio intends to use to advertise a movie in public, in the real world, versus cool art they've come up with for the online campaign. I am not sure if calling the real posters a "one sheet" or not is the way to make this clear, but I just think it's an important distinction all the same. If a studio does something really daring for it's actual theatrical poster, somehow I find it more impressive than putting subversive art on the Internet

Hopefully one day our society will grow up and stuff like this online only CENTIPEDE art will be deemed fit to get printed up and shown off in a light box

That is a great poster. It's simple, it's iconic, it's a real eye-catcher (it takes a moment before you realize where the centipede is) and the "sick" just confirms that this is not an indie drama or comedy.

Sadly I doubt it reflects the LOOK HOW GROSS THIS GETS angle of the flick. I've heard people describe it as as fucked up as A Serbian Movie, which really went places. Actually I'm more interested what he's got in store for Centipede 3 which is said to make 2 look like a pony movie. And given that Six actually seemed to have delivered on the "I'll make 1 look like a pony movie", this should get interesting.

Indeed. HC3 is the real factor here. HC2 is just a blah (for me at least) reaction to people being disappointed by the "tame" level of disgust in the first film. What is great about it is solely how it shows where Six's head is at, regarding the franchise. The fact that he went so meta demonstrates that he has no interest in turning HC into the new SAW. HC2 played great with a festival crowd, but as the days go by and I reflect back on it I kind of hate it. Yet I'm truly very excited for the next film.

Great poster though.
