Professor UniStudios has asked the class who would like to direct The Legend of Conan and none other than Paul Verhoeven has raised his hand.
“If they asked me, I’d certainly love to – let’s put it that way. But I don’t know what the script is. I don’t know what Arnold wants. I’m a big fan of Conan. That’s a great movie and I found that the composer, Basil Poledouris, basically inspired many of my movies [the soundtracks] like Flesh and Blood, Robocop, Starship Troopers, and Total Recall. The score of Conan is great. The style of editing that Milius used was very beautiful, and Arnold does a great job. He was really the perfect choice.”
Mr. Schwarzenneger, do yourself a favor. Pick up the phone. Call Paul. Say “yes”. Sign the contract. Make it the right way while you still can. We’ll all be happy with this decision and your film will be all the better for it with Verhoeven involved ASAP. Besides, Arnold, you had a blast working with him before and have attempted to reunite on various projects since. Make this the one that finally happens. If you don’t make this happen, then I hope a Space Elephant sits on you. Sincerely, Daniel.

Haha! Space elephant! Brilliant, and hell yes to this news too! Please let this happen.
if you think this conan movie is getting made after how the last stand did then… uh. yeah.
Actually, I think it will. One film tanking does not unmake a career like Arnold’s.
If Renny Harlin’s career can absorb all of his bombs and he’s still getting employed, fucking Conan/Terminator/Kindergarten Cop has NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.
no you’re quite right in that several films tanking does make a career like Arnold’s.
yeah that would make sense if Arnie wanted his conan movie to be a tv cop show. Renny Harlin was a terrible example to use. We’re supposed to believe that Anrie is going to be in a mega budget Conan movie, after a career that died and a comeback that never was. Ok ok fine.
Witty! But Daniel Baldwin is right. Arnold can tank ten movies in a row, motherfucker still runs Hollywood. He can get anything made, whenever he wants.
Wow – that would actually make me excited about this.
Sly had a slump as well, but he’s back on top. One flop won’t take out a Hollywood Man like Arnold.
I’m not a huge Conan fan, but I want this to happen PRONTO. A Hard-R Verhoeven helmed Conan film would be the bees knees.
Paul Verhoeven directing Schwarzenegger as…Conan would be…EPIC!
Ok everyone take a step out of the nerd bubble that we inhabit here. Reality check – the last Conan movie bombed spectacularly. The last Ahnult movie bombed spectacularly. The last big budget Hollywood Verhoeven movie bombed spectacularly. Combined with that, Ahnult and Verhoeven have a combined age of around 150. Either one might have a coronary at any given moment. It takes far, far less to make a studio jittery. So yeah – this ain’t happening.
Way to get all multi-personality with conflicting back to back comments. Trybrow. Thanks for playing.
Paul & Arnold owe us big time (still waiting for their Crusades film…). Hollywood, make this so! The Expendables films have already proven that old guys and graphic violence go together. Add graphic nudity, strong sexual situations, and satirical humor and we have a winner.
Verhoeven or Darabont at this point. If Verhoeven can bring back the grit and grime of ’80’s sowrd and sorcery flicks, I say give the man final cut.
If they want the un-PC balls of the original 1930s stories which the original film sort of had, I think Paul could deliver.
The last Conan movie tried to use Rose McGowan as a sex symbol and starred Generic Mimosa in the title role. The Last Stand costarred a Jackass as a straight-out-of-Hot-Lead-and-Cold-Feet Barney Google-type and hinged upon a multi-jurisdictional task force being unable to stop a single Corvette.
The Last Stand was Arnold dipping his toe in the pool. Yeah, it was cold. The only thing to do is dive in with a huge cannonball!
Crusade! Remember when Verhoeven was talking about making that? This could be the closest thing to it.
And Conan the Destroyer is under-rated. [dodge, dodge, dodge, please stop flinging shit my way]
And Hollow Man made money. Not much, but some. And Black Book rocked.
Crusade!!!
Shit. Lost.
