When I did the press junket for The Bourne Ultimatum, Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass seemed pretty certain that they wouldn’t be returning to the Jason Bourne character for some time to come. Neither wrote it off completely, but they were obviously excited to move on to other projects, like the adaptation of Imperial Life in the Emerald City. (Damon actually said that he felt sort of like a prostitute having two number threes coming out in the same summer, so I really thought he was leaving the possibility of a fourth Bourne open only in a friendly way)
Now a Variety article is indicating that maybe these guys are returning to their extraordinarily popular character sooner than thought. Details are slim (here’s the whole of it: ‘On tap is a fourth “Bourne” movie…’ and then a few paragraphs later: ‘More recently, [Marc] Shmuger and [David] Linde landed Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon
for a fourth “Bourne” movie, even though the director and star seemed
ready to wrap it up after three pics.’), but it sounds like this is an imminent project and not some far off pipe dream.
I trust Greengrass and Damon when it comes to this character, but what’s the story here? Unless they do a Bourne version of First Blood, I can’t imagine where the character goes now. Maybe they take the script of the next Steve Martin lowest common denominator family comedy and retool it so that a formerly amnesiac international assassin has to contend with a weekend at the beach with his huge family. Wetworks by the Dozen or Sniper of the Bride. Think of the TV spin-off possibilities (by the way, I know that some dipshit at TBS is feeling really inspired by this concept right now).

If this means a fourth Bourne score by John Powell, I say go for it.
Wetworks by the Dozen was, I believe, an Image comic from the mid-90s. Hell, I'm all for another Bourne movie — and can't they claim that the fourth is actually the Damon-Greengrass third in their trilogy? Damn, I'm thinking like a marketing guy. Kill myself. Seriously. Kill myself now.
There are already two more Bourne books written from which to get a story. Although not written by Ludlum, the author Lustbader was asked by the Ludlum family to carry on the story of Jason Bourne. Maybe a little research before dumb comments?
No dumb comment there, just stating that he didnt think that a fourth movie was viable due to statements previously made by damon and greengrass.

Well, considering that the Bourne series got based less and less on the novels after the first one (the first one is vaguely close, the second, miles away, the third, even further), claiming they have two more books to get a story from is, um, rather nonsensical, given they haven't gotten stories from the last two either…
So maybe someone else needs to do some research, Matt?

there is a fourth book out already, but its been written by some Robert Ludlum Wannabe.
AI is correct matt, there were no dumb comments. Ludlum's books are trash for grandmothers and Damon and Greengrass have stated several times that the series has followed the books "in name only." From now on, I want Matt and the other aicn kids to heed his advice. Do your research, no dumb comments. This is CHUD, we are brilliant.
I hope in the 4th movie Damon's Bourne teams up with Affleck's Ryan. That would be sooo neat, 'cause they're friends in real life!
Making a fourth Bourne feels like Star Wars syndrome. All they have left to do is destroy the last bit of mystery. They've also made a job for themselves- it's not going to be easy to make a better film than Ultimatum
The story is pretty clear to me. They removed a major plot from the books – the Carlos the Jackal plot. The way I see it, there's a rogue assassin / killer on the loose and the CIA needs Bourne to track him and bring him in. By doing so he closes the loop between him and the CIA and all is resolved at the end. Could be exciting.
