…at least for now.
The last couple weeks have seen appalling rumors suggesting that Gisele Bundchen was nearly cast in AP4, that a script had shuddered it’s way into existence, and that Mike Myers and Jay Roach were ready to meet Gisele.
MTV talked to Seth Green, and either he’s the fount of all Austin Powers news, or he’s been shut out of the process. I’m honestly not certain which would be better. He says there’s no script, no Gisele and, given the state of New Line, no plan. Green’s bottom line: “at this point, ‘Austin Powers 4’ is nothing more than something Mike Myers talked about off-handedly during the ‘Shrek’ press.“
Prayer does work.

THAT'S what you pray for. Gain some persepective dweeb.
This newsblurb is concise and informative, but it does not contain nearly enough invective or hyberbolic blather.
Additionally, you fail to self-promote or insert your own opinions and musings as though they are of central importance.
See why you need to get rid of talkbacks?
No, I really don't. Go back to your precious boards, collins. Your buddies miss you.
I'm with Collins. The only thing these talkbacks have been good for is showing just how depraved and angry a solid portion of CHUD's audience is. Some of you folks are really quite obsessed with Devin. There's been an incredible amount of time wasted on using these talkbacks to take Junior High-level potshots at him.
I'm torn. While I think it's time to take the kids out of the sandbox and put them all on a time out, sometimes these talkbacks have way more entertainment value than the articles themselves. Witness The Bridger Adventures. Sorry Nick, but I'm clicking on those things for the talkbacks at this point. I do read the comic but I'm not getting much out of the one-page-a-day format, and don't feel I can give an accurate assessment of the work based on little snippets. Maybe consider just putting the whole thing up, I would read it.
Is that seth green supposed to be devin? Needs to be fatter…
What's Seth Green been up to lately? Hopefully, he's saved enough cash not to have to degrade himself with an Austin Powers 4 paycheck.
The talkbacks should just be an extension of the boards that ties directly to each article; they're good sometimes, but there should be some accountability, and less unknown users (i.e. 12-year-old trolls).
@9: Exactly. Registered forum members only, with a username/password field on the comments to allow quick talkbacks without logging in elsewhere and coming back. But part of the problem here may be CHUD's apparent lack of programmers right now. (BTW, is it just me, or is something wrong with the verification procedure? Apparently I've not once managed to type those letters/numbers in correctly the first time…)
AP4 will come up every time Myers has a film to sell that no-one's interested in. Wow, Board members are really feeling threatened by these talkbacks. Missing the old forum-style lynchings huh?
@9: You think the forum members aren't 12 year old trolls???
Not once in the messageboard discussion about why intelligent commenters (not necessarily saying that I am one) might not bother with the board does it occur to you guys that the fact that your incredible cliqueness and oppressive consensus might be a factor. Here's a case in point, even the members who are vaguely tolerant of the talkbacks believe that when intelligent comment is made on here, it's because the commenter can't be bothered to register and validate. And even members who have responded to this claim with disbelief don't bother to consider if there might be any other reasons why smart film fans don't want to join the board, rather conclude that the talkbacks are entirely worthless even if this is clearly not the case. It’s almost as if your collective brain is incapable of entertain the thought that you might be less than friendly an inviting, even to clever and articulate individuals.
When Owen/Kueller started posting on the boards he swirled up *pure* shitstorms of hatred. All credit to him for sticking it out and paying his dues so he can now post with impunity (and get his stuff defended against talkbackers!) but honestly, why should anyone have to put up with that? Yes, the talkbacks are more free for the bad but they are more free for the good (or 'enthusiatic' or 'well intentioned') as well.
I dunno, is this irony? The members delight in the exclusivity of this site yet at the same time, the site will never have the influence or the revenue it craves so long as it panders to this in-group (who may not even be that interested in films any more, judging from Devin’s comments). I can't believe I seriously read comments along the lines of "they need to be put on a separate page" (like the AICN talkbacks?) or "they make the site look bad to new visitors". Please. These are flimsy pretexts, people know the internet, they will judge the site on the quality of the articles not on the random feedback. And being as they are, right at the bottom of page, they are also *extremely* easy to avoid.
Props to Devin for defending the talkbacks, if you don't like them, don't read them. I'm fairly sure he's correct in thinking it's just 1 or 2 people attacking him on here and probably people who had their asses handed to them on the messageboards. I can't think how any random could have built up an animus towards him. Like I said, some self-examination wouldn’t go amiss, the MBs are probably responsible for the a lot of the problematic element (I mean, how did LisaNY crop up, here?) in the talkbacks and I think deep down they know this too which is why they are clamour for a log-in system and the railing against the ‘anonymity’. Devin also points out that the staff can remove all the trolling they want and the fact I’ve not yet seen an invitation to "meet millionaires" suggests that they do. Feedback on the AV Club is also immediate and anonymous and I find it highly entertaining– it's not a choice between AICN talkbackers and nothing, you know. Speaking of AICN, you know you were wrong to diss their Talkbacks Devin, it's a curates egg, there is still good/funny stuff on there.
The talkbacks need time and date stamps though, I mean was it a talkback or a member who said that 'Friday' might be an urban 'Clerks' first? Or maybe it was the same person?
As for 'Wanted', eh. It looks terrible. And 'Nightwatch' was very mediocre.
Duh. What I meant to say, in my last sentence, was: "'Austin Powers 4', eh. It sounds terrible. And 'Austin Powers 3' was very mediocre. The talkbacks are a very good way of getting feedback relevant to the articles, obviously. 🙂
Yes, lets get rid of the talkbacks. Because, afterall, you can't be critical about anyone that writes anything on this site. No, you have to be one of the lame ass message board posters that agrees with everything everyone says. Yes, get rid of the talkbacks, so no one can speak their mind about anything, just bob their heads and agree with everyone.
Oh, and an Austin Powers 4 would suck.
I hope Nick keeps the talkbacks. It makes things feel more democratic, whereas the forums feel like the Tri Lambs, if they were a bunch of know-it-all douchebags. There are a few posters who are hilarious (mainly Moltisanti) but the rest are losers who think Devin is their god. How or why he became the "best" writer on this site is beyond me. I guess capitulating to Don Murphy earns you that cred.
Best writers are still Nick and Beaks, in that order.
These talkbacks are one of the funniest thing I read on the internet each day. The "I don't like it, so make it go away" types are the funniest. They're like the 275 pound, toothless evangelical women who demand that the nude beach be closed.
If you don't like it, don't read it. How hard is that? Why spoil my fun?
Oh your happy abot this? But you would be all over AvP3 or Running Scared II. Such a bunch of douchenozzles,,,
The people whom post on the message boards on CHUD are some of the most elitist, inclusive people I've ever encountered on the internet.
Just because they're smarter than you and have better taste does not make them elitist.
Quit acting like a bunch of nancyboys. The talkbacks provide me with near endless amounts of enjoyment. As far as the messageboards, everyone of em on the internet have elitist herd mentalities that prey on the noobs and anyone else that is not part of the herd. Their main goal is to assimilate everyone as quickly as possible. The chud boards are certainly no different as anyone can clearly read from the chimp screaming on this talkback calling for registered users only. If the talkbacks hurt your feminine feelings then don't read em and quit yer bitchin.
and you're still probably keep all 30 of the people that visit here, but we'll probably troll youtube a little more out of boredom instead
3 wasn't that great, but I really enjoy Mike Myers Comedy, if they could turn the series around and promise us a good Austin Powers 4, I'd be behind it.
Otherwise, forget the idea.
Scott…you just don't get it, do you…
