As it has come to my attention that some of you are interested in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, here’s an embed for the latest TV spot airing… I’m not sure where. Not during the NBA Playoffs, which is all I’ve been watching all weekend.
Let’s have some fun with this. Before clicking “play”, try to guess which of these three utterances does not appear in the commercial:
- “Always glad to help.”
- “That can’t be good.”
- “Who hides cheese?”
How inspiringly rote.
Of course, it’s silly to complain about cliche. Everyone indulges in it, especially the greats. As Ben Hecht once put it, “‘Cliche’ is for closers; ‘Clever’ is for child molesters.”
See familiar sights May 22nd!

The Dark Knight – July 18th
YAWN.
Go fuck yourself, you bottom feeding shit head.
The pathetic thing is that all the haters will be there on day fucking one.
Do me a favor and stay home, cum-dumpster.
Damn, I was secretly hoping someone would want to know where the cheese was. I'm looking forward to this. So I like big adventure flicks, sue me.
devincf.com is where you should go to be a negative douche…not here, Jeremy.
i don't know if it's the film or the hack editors used to make these trailers but, to me, they have all been uniformly boring. i mean sahara had beter trailers than this. for the records, i've got my fingers crossed and am hoping that it's just shitty editors. we'll see.
That's the best one yet, I think.
This movie will not suck at all, but it has the potential to disappoint a bit because (like Star Wars) people have built it up over the years with just anticipation. My guess is we will get a fantastic movie that we probably will not appreciate as much until later, kind of like with Temple of Doom (in my opinion). However, these asshats will NEVER like it, because you need to go see something like The Diving Bell and The Butterfly to be as hip as they are. Also, you need to watch performances and composition in movies (even if the movie stinks) and then bitch about but promote "flawed" movies that were "good experiments."
If you are looking for a popcorn, genre, or movie that more than 100 people across the country will enjoy (other than Apatow) … this is the wrong site for you. Shame, this site USED to be fun and actually have a sense of humor. Wonder what Heston's family would think about the "hilarious" crack about his death … Soilent Green indeed. About as unfunny and disrespectful as the usual stuff. OPIE AND ANTHONY! O&A PARTY ROCK! XM 202!
The marking so far as not been what I think it should be for such an event film. This feels like Mummy. Nothing about the commercials so far make it seem the studio is any more proud of this than the average blockbuster. It's an Indiana Jones move! Don't shoehorn it into the same formulas as a Matthew McCanaheiujsdj?? "adventure."
I love the one jackass who always closes his talkback with a radio plug. We get it. Anyways, I agree no way to live up to the hype. I just hope it feels like Indiana Jones. The worst thing about DHINO, T3, LW4, & Alien R is they didn't fit with the rest of the series; felt like cheap knock-offs. It's still Spielberg in the driver's seat, so how bad can it be?
hmm…doesn't serial=cliche?
Oh, Jeremy… Once again proving your stupidity… You are a distasteful little worm…
The success of these films isn't about who's there on day 1, but whether you go back for Day 7 and rave to everyone you know. I'll try and see it first day and I hope there's enough of a spark there to bother seeing it again and letting friends know it's worth the hassle of seeing it in a cinema. But mindless love is as bad if not worse than being a hater going into the thing (lowered expectations and all that). Plus Spielberg's genre output hasn't been that great in a long time and Ford's become a horribly tired and predictable actor. Everyone in the mainstream seems to be most interested in Blanchett as the baddie and The Beef isn't getting much pre-emptive hate these days, so they were at least on the ball with those bits of casting. Nobody trusts Lucas anymore except the most insanely fucked fanboys.
Couldn't hear them very well over the goddamn add chirping at me.
Well, the site's two for two today with Devin's article on Iron Man snidely bashing TDK and Jermey's article clearly bashing Indy. Look, reflect your negativity all you want when the movies are actually released in the form of a review (which I expect you both have already decided you will). Until then, shut the fuck up and just report the news without the constant negativity.
A mythical city? An ancient secret? Unlimited power? Why this could only be leading up to an adventure starring our own Indiana Jones! I agree, this is about as broad as you can get in terms of marketing, but it works nonetheless.
P.S. I've been reading CHUD reviews and articles for years now, and have never felt the need to complain. I kind of love it when people throw their weight around and threaten to 'leave' this site 'for good', because it essentially means nothing. Look, there's a reason they call em 'opinions'. Don't like it? Start your own site, if you have the ability to write.
look, the only reason i saw raiders of the lost ark is because my mom bought the first issue of the comic adaption from marvel for me. i loved it. i have since seen the film every time it's been reshown in austin from the arbor to the drafthouse. temple of doom s the first movie i truly remember watching. it was at the killeen mall and my parents didn't care for it much but i was nine and could only care for short round. i saw last crusade with my dad when i was in eighth grade and was allowed to tag along with him on a work trip. we saw it together. after dune, it was the only movie we saw just the two of us. it may, after all these years and irregardless of critical opinion, my favorite of the three. everything flippant and powerful is combined in denholm elliott's response to an offer of drink: "i'd sooner spit in your eye; but as i haven't got any spit…." i say this just to say that i hope this film is good. there are no snobs in my bones. but the trailers worry me. and, as said, spielberg's genre efforts lately seem al tired and bored and……..look this movie can suck completely in every way possible and i know that harrison ford could save it. that's what worries me. i just want harrison.
David Koepp's dialogue doesn't exactly crackle (big surprise), but I still have hopes for this one.
But this trailer is pretty damn mediocre and shows us only about .7 seconds of new material.
This entire francise was based on the cliche, pulp action heros. Just another fucking CHUD moron missing the point…whats the matter CHUD didnt get any free premier tickets or coffee mugs shaped like crystal skulls? You guys are really losing your mojo here…
