Okay, keep this on the down low, but apparently there was a screening recently of The Watchmen. Merrick over at AICN reported that some people who saw the film are tossing their NDA to the wind and are spilling the beans on what they saw, even as reps for the film are trying to shut it down. It’s all very Men in Black-type shit.
If you’re dying to remain SPOILER FREE on this particular film property, then proceed on to other news or reviews or what have you. Otherwise, feel free to grab some eyefuls of the following at your own risk:
ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO READ THIS??
ARE YOU REALLY SURE YOU WANT TO READ THIS???
Thanks to Matalo for the scoop.

I'm happy with this ending. Who cares about the fanboy whining. Trying to put the ending of the book on screen would of looked dumb. At least Synder gave them a bit of big blue cock (BBC) to fantasize over…
David do you read this site or just write for it? The announcement for the screening here in Portland I found out about from CHUD days and days ago. Do they even talk to you? I fucking LIKE calamari and the end would have rocked.
nothing too spoliery in these – nothing that hasn't already been covered here in the forums.
I quite like the guy who thinks snyder has put in a fake ending so that you-know-what can be put back in for the theatrical release. Live the dream buddy.
The pro-squid people need to quit the internet.
Good to know that the "35 minutes ago" line is kept in. I'm really glad I've been reading CHUD during all this, because otherwise, I might have been really upset. Major kudos to the CHUD regulars on the forum for explaining how this end could work thematically.
Jesus H. Macy, does EVERY Watchmen-related article have to have a title which is some variation of "_____ watches the Watchmen"?
First things first. If you escalate an arms race and have one party fire the first nuke, the retaliation is going to lead to global destruction. One party isn't going to back off and when threatened, will attack. Alan Moore had it right the first time, quit fucking up. By having an attack come from left field (and you would shit your pants if some cyclopean Cthulhu-esque squid suddenly appeared in the middle of NYC) no matter how unplausable you thought it to be, it becomes Us as a global community against Them whoever they might be.
I still miss the squid
the image of it and the sounds I imagine it making along with the fires crackling and blood flowing has always been very striking
oh well
One thing the internet doesn't need – adults bitching about the ending to a film based on a comic, even if it is fucking Watchmen. The new ending could work better than the squid. Nobody knows, really. How about we wait til it comes out, we've all seen it, and can start talking about it? God damn.
I knew they weren't gonna do the squid, which is disappointing. That big, disgusting bastard would have looked gorgeous. However, I had hoped that whatever they came up with had a similar impact, and I really hoped that they weren't gonna go with the Ozy framing Jon bit. Entertainment wise, this probably makes little impact and is perhaps more visually stunning, but theme is another matter. The difference between intimidation and uniting against the unknown is vast. Whatever though, I'm not making any decisions until I've seen it for myself.
God damn fucking shit! They're not going to include the squid? Fuck you, Snyder, FUCK YOU! I will come into your home and shit on your expensive carpet, I will sodomize your dog, I will drink all your alcohol, I will take all your drugs, and you will be sorry for NOT INCLUDING THE FUCKING SQUID!!! God damn it! I'm so fucking mad right now. I will fucking… Oh wait, I didn't read Watchment. What is this squid? I actually liked your other movies, so I will see your version of Watchmen. Carry on!
it's the squid you chud asses. it's changing it from an external threat for humanity to rally against, to rallying against 1 human. changes the whole misanthropic outcome, ozy and manhattans talk about whether what they did was right. it was decided before manhattan even decided to go into exile. stupid change. the image of the squid and the squid itself were comic book commentary, ny destroyed by a four color monster. however it didn't have to be a squid, but making it into a manhattan machine changes the point of the ending.
It just seems stupid that after Snyder takes all this time and effort to do a shot for shot remake of the comic, talks about how true he is staying to the source material and than decides to leave the squid creature out of it. It is somewhat trivial but it has made my outlook on the film significantly more negative. I think the biggest crime is the fact that the movie will end with My Chemical Romance doing a cover of a Bob Dylan song.
I think the new ending just goes to prove the Snyder doesn't understand the source material, and failed to do so for both 300 and Dawn of the Dead. The man is making a career out of denuding original texts of politics (probably wise for 300, but it makes for a boring movie) and passing it off as common denominator compromises. It might look alright on the screen, but my inner geek is grieving at the loss of the squid and all that it represented.
Well I think that Devin must be running around his house real fast and then going real slow all of the sudden.
