Aaron Eckhart is, as many of us have been saying for years, the ideal person to play Captain America in a new movie version of the comic icon. But if we’re not going to get him as Cap, I’ll take him as the next best thing – the leader of a Marine platoon that battles an invading alien force in the streets of Los Angeles.
That’s his next big action role. The film is Battle: Los Angeles, and it’s being directed by Jonathan Liebesman, the guy behind Darkness Falls and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. The concept seems pretty simple – aliens, Marines, Los Angeles, and it’s written by the guy who wrote… The General’s Daughter?!? Huh.
Battle: Los Angeles is currently scheduled for a 2010 release, but there’s no filming date set.

So… I realize it's implied by the title to the article… but Eckhardt IS set to star in the movie and isn't just your personal pick for it, right?
Liebesman and the guy who wrote General's Daughter points this this being a wad of shit, even if it is about aliens and even with Eckhardt, who I prefer in small doses. I often get the sense from him that he's holding back, except for In the Company of Men. But when he's good, he's great, like with Two Face.

Why couldn't he play Cap? Nic Cage was slated for Superman, then played Ghost Rider. What other actors have performed in different comic properties? I wanna' say Morgan Freeman, in both "Wanted" and the Batman films.
Rob, with Morgan Freeman though the comic properties he was attached to (Batman and Wanted) were both DC titles. (Admittedly Wanted was through Vertigo, but thats kinda the same thing in the long run) I think the point messi is tryng to make is that actors who sign up for one comic company film (DC in this case) shouldnt work for the other (Marvel).

Every actor I hear suggested for Captain America is too friggin' old. Wasn't he supposed to be 17 or 18 when he shot up the super soldier serum?

TDK aside, Eckhart is sort of the male Julianne Moore — when he does a big studio movie, it's usually a disaster: The Core, The Missing, Paycheck, Suspect Zero, Black Dahlia, et al.

I dont know much about Captain America, so I could be way off, but I thought that since he took the serum, he looked to be about 45 or 50 even though he would be in his 80's at this point. So maybe someone would find play him as a scrawny youngster and someone could play him when is actually cap after he gets thawed out….wait, wasnt this article about some movie with aliens?
Echart should be "Thor." He's blond, all American handsome, hot, charismatic and a great actor.
Marvel…. Dc… James mardsen was in both. Ryan reynolds is playing two marvel characters.
