I had been itching to watch Charlie Brooker’s Dead Set – in which the Big Brother house becomes a fortress during a zombie outbreak – but now that itch has become… a more maddening itch? A rash? Hives? I don’t know, but after watching this insightful, hilarious and true clip from Brooker’s current show Newswipe, I need to seek out all of his other stuff ASAP. In this clip Brooker completely deconstructs a news segment, and he gets it dead right.
In the meantime: someone please release Dead Set in Region 1. I don’t have my Region 2 player anymore!

A ZOMBIE outbreak? Inventive!
That is great.
You can always download it if you want to watch it THAT bad.
Charlie Brooker is one of the best talents on British TV. I remember reading his stuff when I was a teenager and he used to write for a PC games magazine. It was hilarious and outrageous. Suffice to say he has moved onto much bigger things.
I wasn't a fan of Dead Set, but Newswipe is great. Also check out Gameswipe on Youtube for a fun one-off rant on games.
Newswipe is awesome. It's not just the british version of The Daily Show, but a unique insight in the world of news.
Watch it if you can. The episodes are on YouTube and watch too Screenwipe (about TV in general) and a one-off special, Gameswipe (about videogames).
Now, as Brooker himself would say, GO AWAY!
I love Brooker, he has been a great media commentator for a decade now, and though I enjoy Newswipe, it is essentially the same programme every week.
Screenwipe was, and is, much better.
Also, all his BBC stuff is on youtube, and he endorses it due to the impossibility of commercial release, so you have no qualms with regard piracy issues.
That was highly amusing. But Devin is in for a shock with Dead Set, which is only so so.
You saw my name, Devin "I swear I don't bother to read the comments!" Faraci. Just fucking download it. That is, if you can get off your high horse long enough to learn to use bittorrent.
That's right, I played the high horse card mother fucker. Deal with it.
Dead Set is okay. Not bad, not great…. just a resounding okay.
This is so on the money for British news that I never imagined it could be as resonant anywhere else.
His previous demolishing of mission documentaries was a toweringly high watermark for me.
Charlie Brooker is a GENIUS. Read his books and watch all his shows, ASAP.
I thought dead set was better than just ok. It takes its cues from '28 Days Later', but the very last scene puts it right on par with Romero's best.
The UK DVD of Dead Set is region free. Nothing stopping you from buying it right now, sir.
My first time watching his actual stuff, but have been enjoying his segments with Doug Stanhope talking about how much people suck.
he does a hilarious column for the guardian newspaper
Dead set is sort of great, except for the douche bag hammy TV producer character. Made the last half hour almost unwatchable. Probably the point. Devin won't be downloading this because it would make him look like a hypocrite. Don't understand why that would stop him cause the guy lives to be a hypocrite. And by the way Region free dvd players are less than 50 bucks, devin. Don't be such a fucking tight ass.
The user 'XtheMusic' on YouTube has uploaded all of the Newswipe and Screenwipe episodes for those wanting to see more.
