A couple of weeks ago we were all like ‘WTF WHAT AM THIS MOVIE ARGH’ when the Best Animated Picture Oscar noms were revealed to contain The Secret of Kells, a movie that had been on approximately no radars. Now the trailer is available and, combined with the stunning word of mouth from recent screenings, the nomination is making more sense. This movie looks gorgeously stylized, and I’m intrigued by it in a big way now.

This trailer just made sweet love to my eyes, and I WANT MOOOORE!!
Amazing art direction, Genndy Tartakovsky comes to mind. Vikings are a plus as well.
I hope more "2D" animation like this makes a comeback. After the monopoly of CGI kids movies, it's beyond refreshing to see something as dazzling and stylish as this. "The Cat Piano" which was nominated for Best Animated Short is another gorgeous example.
It does look good…the Triplets of Belleville credit is a bit worrisome though. That movie had a great trailer and a great first half hour ro so, then became just a typical, somewhat dull story.
The Dublin Film Festival in on here at the mo and last year The Secret Of Kells premiered at it. Brilliant movie. The Irish are well represented at this years Oscars with this, Granny O'Grimm in animated short, The Door in short films, sound for Star Trek is Peter Devlin from Belfast and one of the main effects guys behind Avatar is from Dublin and studied here to boot! Hurray for us! C'mon Ireland!
I'm not comfortable admitting how much "WTF WHAT AM THIS MOVIE ARGH" made me laugh. But it was a lot.
Alright, so then they should've booted Princess and the Frog instead of this to make a slot for Ponyo.
I just noticed this movie last week when the trailer became available and I am really excited about. The art style is gorgeous and I will always like cell animation more than CGI animation, CGI animation always looks so dead while cell animation look vibrant and alive.
I find the plot interesting as well and very different from the traditional kids stories you see in most animation.
Very interested in this. And very interested in Japan's frequent snubbing.
First time I saw a trailer for this was over a year ago. I loved the visuals and was exited to see it someday, but then I forgot about it until the nomination. I want this on blueRay, the sooner the better. Hopefully we'll get it here in Europe at all…
I've seen the flick, and it's telling how much the trailer focuses on the girl character, Aisling. She really is the best part of the film, and unfortunately isn't in it nearly enough.
Any idea how or where to see this movie?
